PennDOT Announces Road Work Scheduled This Week in Schuylkill County


The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced several road projects scheduled throughout Schuylkill County this week that could impact drivers.
Motorists are advised to use caution in work zones, allow extra travel time, and watch for crews and flaggers.

The following projects are scheduled:

Orwigsburg Borough

A lane restriction with flagging is scheduled on PA Route 443 between Warren Street and Liberty Street beginning Monday, July 6, 2026, and continuing through Friday, September 4, 2026.

The work is being completed by a local permittee and will take place weekdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm. PennDOT says rain is not expected to cause delays.

Barnesville Area

PennDOT maintenance crews will be working on Tuscarora Park Road between Route 309 and the Locust Valley Fire Control Station.

A lane restriction with flagging will be in place Monday, July 6, 2026, through Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Weather may impact the schedule.

Ashland/Butler Township/Big Mine Run

PennDOT maintenance crews are scheduled to perform work on Big Mine Run Road between Route 54 and the Columbia County line from Tuesday, July 7, 2026, through Friday, July 10, 2026.

A lane restriction with flagging will be in place daily from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Rain could cause delays.

Route 54 from Ashland to Mahanoy City

Crews will also be working on Route 54 between Big Mine Run Road (Ashland/Butler Township) and Golden Bear Drive (Mahanoy City) during the same timeframe, Tuesday, July 7, through Friday, July 10, from 7:00am to 3:00pm.

Lane restrictions with flagging will be in effect, and weather may impact the work.

Butler Township/Girardville to Mahanoy Township

PennDOT maintenance crews will have lane restrictions with flagging on Main Street between Route 54/West Mahanoy Avenue and Route 54/Suffolk Road from Tuesday, July 7, 2026, through Friday, July 10, 2026.

Work will take place daily from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Rain is not expected to delay the project.

Crews are also scheduled to work on East Mahanoy Avenue between PA Route 54 and Powder Mill Road from Tuesday, July 7, through Friday, July 10.

Drivers should expect lane restrictions with flagging from 7:00am to 3:00pm. PennDOT says rain is not expected to impact the schedule.
