The crash occurred around 8:16 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, on Burma Road (State Route 1006), north of Firetower Road in Blythe Township. The incident involved a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer.
According to the state police crash report, the Chevrolet Malibu was traveling westbound on Burma Road when the driver attempted to negotiate a left curve. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to rotate approximately 90 degrees and enter the eastbound lane directly into the path of the oncoming tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane of Burma Road.
Police identified the deceased as Alexandria J. Womer, 18, of Pottsville, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the Chevrolet. She was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering fatal injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Martin A. Malis, 19, of Pottsville, sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported by Ryan Township Emergency and Rescue Squad to Lehigh Valley Hospital–East.
Three additional passengers in the Chevrolet were also injured:
- A 16-year-old male from Pottsville suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
- A 17-year-old male from Pottsville sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest.
- A 14-year-old male from Port Carbon suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported to St. Luke's Miners Campus.
All occupants of the Chevrolet were reported to have been wearing seat belts.
The tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound at the time of the collision. Although the report classifies the crash as involving a commercial vehicle, a fatality, and driving under the influence, no additional details regarding the DUI designation or any charges have been released.
Assisting at the scene were the Ryan Township Fire Department, multiple EMS agencies, PSP Troop L CARS Unit, and the PSP Troop L Forensic Services Unit. State police continue to investigate the crash.
