UPDATE (Sunday Evening): The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Schuylkill County and portions of Pennsylvania as strong to severe storms move through the region.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 1:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2026.
The watch comes as Schuylkill County remains under a Flood Watch through Monday evening due to the potential for excessive rainfall and flash flooding.
As of this posting Sunday evening, some of the storms moving across Pennsylvania have already prompted Tornado Warnings in the Harrisburg area, highlighting the strength of the storm system.
Strong thunderstorms moving through the region may be capable of producing damaging winds, heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and localized flooding. The storms could produce torrential downpours, with rainfall rates high enough to quickly overwhelm storm drains, creeks, and low-lying areas.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch includes the following Pennsylvania counties:
Adams, Bedford, Berks, Blair, Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Mifflin, Montgomery, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, and York.
Residents should remain weather aware Sunday night and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Anyone traveling should use caution, especially in areas where heavy rainfall could lead to rapidly changing road conditions.
Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown.
