The Indians built a 21-0 halftime advantage behind three rushing touchdowns. Steele opened the scoring with a 1-yard run before adding a 9-yard touchdown. Noah Ringes then reached the end zone on a 4-yard run.
Shamokin Area broke the game open with 20 points in the third quarter.
Ryan Bickert returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown before Pottsville recorded its only points of the game on a 40-yard run by Andrew Allen. Allen also converted the extra point.
Steele responded with a 60-yard touchdown run and later connected with Xavier Paul for a 3-yard touchdown pass. The extra-point attempt following the final score was unsuccessful.
Steele led Shamokin Area’s offense with 96 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries. He also completed 5 of 10 passes for 66 yards and a touchdown without throwing an interception.
Ringes added 88 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Colin Steinhart caught four passes for 63 yards and converted five extra-point attempts.
Shamokin Area finished with 294 yards of offense, including 228 on the ground. The Indians recorded 15 first downs and did not throw an interception.
Pottsville was limited to 161 total yards and seven first downs. The Crimson Tide gained 62 yards rushing and 99 through the air.
Allen led Pottsville with 50 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. He completed 8 of 9 passes for 99 yards. Donovann Durham caught three passes for 38 yards, Nicholas Huda made four receptions for 35 yards and Shay Strencosky added a 26-yard reception.
Evan Pancher recorded an interception for Shamokin Area. Both teams lost one fumble.
Shamokin Area improved to 1-0 and will face Danville Area in Week 2. Pottsville Area fell to 0-1 and will host Mount Carmel Area.
