A cordless drill battery reportedly overheated and exploded, sparking a small basement fire at an Ashland home Sunday evening.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to 206 Walnut Street around .
Firefighters Find Fire Near Heating Oil Burner
Firefighters arriving at the Walnut Street home found light smoke coming from the building and the interior filled with smoke. Initial reports indicated that the fire was in the basement.
Crews entered the cellar and found a small fire near the home’s heating oil burner. Firefighters determined that a cordless drill left on top of the heating unit became hot enough for its battery to explode and catch fire.
Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately one hour while clearing smoke from the home and neighboring attached residences.
