Shenandoah Valley quarterback Ethan Bench accounted for four touchdowns Friday night as the Blue Devils defeated Panther Valley 35-6 to remain Schuylkill County’s only undefeated football team.
Shenandoah Valley improved to 3-0, while Panther Valley fell to 1-2.
Bench opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass to David Burrous in the first quarter. Sam Mentusky added the extra point to give the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead.
Neither team scored during the second quarter, sending Shenandoah Valley into halftime with the seven-point advantage.
The Blue Devils broke the game open after halftime. Bench connected with Burrous again, this time for a 3-yard touchdown, before finding Gene Sinkus for a 51-yard scoring pass. Mentusky converted both extra-point attempts, extending the lead to 21-0 after three quarters.
Shenandoah Valley added two more touchdowns during the fourth quarter. Mike Elchisak scored on a 23-yard run, and Bench capped the Blue Devils’ scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run.
Mentusky finished the night a perfect 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts.
Panther Valley’s lone score came when quarterback Cy Maynard connected with Jason Ahn for a 30-yard touchdown. The extra-point attempt failed.
Bench finished with three touchdown passes and one rushing score. Burrous caught two of those touchdown passes, while Sinkus hauled in the other.
Panther Valley entered the game with a 1-1 record after defeating Mahanoy Area and losing to Marian Catholic. The Panthers will look to bounce back when they host Greater Nanticoke Area in Week 4.
Shenandoah Valley will put its perfect record on the line at home against Tri-Valley.
