Mrs. T’s Pierogies is inviting the community to celebrate National Pierogy Day during its annual Community Flag Raising at Shenandoah Borough Hall on
The gathering will celebrate the Schuylkill County company’s hometown roots and the food tradition that helped transform a Shenandoah family recipe into a nationally recognized brand.

The annual flag raising recognizes National Pierogy Day and the local history behind one of the nation’s best-known pierogy brands.
Mrs. T’s Pierogies Traces Its History to Shenandoah
October 8 holds an important place in the company’s history. On that date in 1952, founder Ted Twardzik Sr. made his first pierogy sale to a local grocery store in Shenandoah. This year marks 74 years since that first sale.
Inspired by the popularity of his mother’s pierogies at church festivals, Twardzik believed customers would welcome the opportunity to purchase them at grocery stores throughout the year.
He named the business after his mother, Mary Twardzik, the original Mrs. T.
National Pierogy Day Costume Giveaway
Along with the Shenandoah flag raising, Mrs. T’s is celebrating National Pierogy Day with a nationwide Halloween costume giveaway.
According to the company’s announcement, 100 winners will receive a limited-edition costume pair featuring a Mrs. T’s Pierogy costume and a Sour Cream costume. Winners also will receive coupons redeemable for boxes of Mrs. T’s Pierogies at major retailers.
“Pierogies and sour cream have long been a go-to pairing at mealtime,” said Olivia Zawatski, marketing communications manager at Mrs. T’s Pierogies.
Zawatski said the costumes were developed after fans asked for another way to show their enthusiasm for pierogies.

Fans can enter through the sweepstakes post on the company’s Instagram page or Facebook page by tagging the person with whom they would like to dress up.
