Pottsville Woman Jailed After Alleged Burglary at Former Partner’s St. Clair Home

St. Clair Police burglary investigation involving a Pottsville woman and a North Third Street home

ST. CLAIR — A Pottsville woman is facing felony burglary and criminal trespass charges after police allege she entered her former partner’s St. Clair home without permission, damaged property and struck him during an incident late Monday into early Tuesday.

Abigail Kate Mont, 36, of Pottsville, was charged by St. Clair Police following the alleged incident at a North Third Street residence.

Police Detail Alleged Entry Into St. Clair Home

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by St. Clair Police, officers were dispatched to the residence at approximately 12:04 a.m. on , for a reported burglary in progress.

The resident told police that Mont, his former partner, had entered his home without permission and refused repeated requests to leave. When he said he intended to contact police, Mont allegedly took his cellphone.

The man told investigators he initially attempted to walk to the police department but returned home. After he emailed Mont requesting that she return his phone, she allegedly came back and gave it to him before taking it again during another verbal argument.

According to the affidavit, the man then drove to the St. Clair Police Department to report the incident.

After returning home, he initially believed Mont had left. He told police he later heard a loud noise downstairs, saw Mont coming from the basement and watched her smash a coffee pot on the floor before leaving again.

While cleaning up the broken glass, the man reported hearing a side window being opened or tampered with. He then allegedly saw Mont entering the home through the window.

The man told police he had possession of Mont’s cellphone and used it to call 911. When Mont heard him speaking with the dispatcher, she allegedly began damaging property inside the residence.

Laptop Damaged and Resident Allegedly Struck

Police allege Mont damaged an HP Pavilion laptop valued at approximately $1,200 by partially tearing its screen from the computer. She also allegedly struck the man once in the lower lip with a closed fist before fleeing on foot.

Officers reported observing purple discoloration and slight swelling inside the man’s lower lip.

Police also reported finding the home in disarray, with broken glass and fluid on the kitchen floor. The laptop reportedly had multiple dents, a partially detached screen and exposed wiring.

Outside the residence, officers reported observing disturbed dirt on the siding near the identified window and a small, dirty handprint on the lower windowpane.

Charges Filed Against Mont

Court records list the following charges:

  • Burglary, a first-degree felony
  • Criminal trespass, a third-degree felony
  • Theft by unlawful taking, a first-degree misdemeanor
  • Criminal mischief, a second-degree misdemeanor
  • Harassment, a summary offense

Bail and Preliminary Hearing

Monetary bail was set at $10,000 on . Court records list Mont as being held at Schuylkill County Prison after she was unable to post bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for , before Magisterial District Judge Edward M. Lewis.

All charges are allegations. Mont is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
