Police Investigating Sunday Morning Shooting

A man is locked up after an alleged shooting Sunday morning in Pottsville.

On Sunday morning (9/25/16) around 3:30am, while on patrol,  Pottsville Police heard two sounds consistent with gunshots in the area of the 100 block of south Progress Avenue. They immediately responded to the area where the sounds of the shots came from and shortly thereafter while searching the area received a call from Lehigh Valley Medical Center South reporting that a gunshot victim had arrived at the facility for evaluation.

An investigation by Police led them to find that a male, Quan Robinson, 23, of Brooklyn, NY,  had intentionally fired two 9mm handgun rounds from a Ruger LC9 handgun in his possession at a Nissan Infinity being driven southbound on Progress Avenue past the Ramada Inn with five occupants inside who were involved in an ongoing dispute with Robinson and a 22 year old Pottsville man who had been visiting a 17 year old Pottsville girl and a 19 year old St. Clair woman staying overnight at the Ramada Inn.

According to POlice, one bullet struck the vehicle in the driver side rear fender area and did not enter into the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The other bullet entered the car through the trunk area and grazed a 20 year old male passenger seated in the rear seat on his lower back area. The wounded victim was treated for a minor injury and released.

Robinson was detained by police in the area of the Ramada shortly after the incident and officers recovered the firearm. At that time the weapon had four live 9m rounds - three in the magazine and one chambered, all matching the recovered shell casings from the incident. Investigators also interviewed two witnesses who identified Robinson as the man who had fired the gun.

A criminal complaint was prepared charging Robinson with five counts of Attempted Criminal Homicide, five counts of Felony Aggravated Assault, five counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Propulsion of Missiles and Possession of Instruments of a Crime.

He was arraigned by on-duty Magisterial District Judge David J. Rossi who set bail at $250,000.00 and Robinson was locked up in Schuylkill County Prison.

Because positive identification of Robinson has not yet been confirmed he was arraigned as “John Doe” pending further investigation.

Pottsville Bureau of Police officers were assisted in the initial response by PA State Police Troopers.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Pottsville Bureau of Police at 570-622-1234 Ext. 333.
