Flood Advisory Issued for Schuylkill County

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for Schuylkill County until Friday Afternoon.

* UNTIL 130 PM EDT *

AT 1037 AM EDT, MEDIA REPORTS AND AUTOMATED GAUGE REPORTS INDICATED MINOR FLOODING HAS BEGUN ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HALF OF CENTRAL PA. UP TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAS ALREADY FALLEN. THE STEADY RAINFALL HAS ENDED WEST OF HARRISBURG, AND SHOULD TAPER OFF VERY SHORTLY IN THE EASTERN CITIES.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE... JOHNSTOWN, ALTOONA, BEDFORD, GETTYSBURG, HUNTINGDON, HARRISBURG AND YORK. ADDITIONAL SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL POP UP THIS AFTERNOON. HOWEVER, THE STORMS WILL BE MUCH MORE SCATTERED THAN THE WIDESPREAD RAINFALL OVERNIGHT AND THIS MORNING. ANY ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN LATER TODAY MAY LEAD TO RENEWED OR WORSENING FLOODING

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES. EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS, URBAN AREAS, HIGHWAYS, STREETS AND UNDERPASSES AS WELL AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS. &&
