A female driver was taken to the hospital around 3 PM today (Thursday, May 15, 2014) after crashing her car into a parked car on Lafayette Street (at the intersection of North Lehigh Street) in Tamaqua.

Officials on scene said that the woman was driving a dark blue Chevy Cobalt west on Lafayette Street when, for some reason, she went through the stop sign at the North Lafayette Street intersection and rear-ended a grey Volkswagen Jetta. No one was in the Volkswagen at the time.

A boy was also hit after the parked Volkswagen was pushed into him during the impact. Officials on scene said the boy was shaken up, but didn’t appear to suffer any major injuries.

The cause of the incident is still unknown, although unofficial reports from personnel on scene stated a medical condition as the cause.

Responding were firefighters from Citizens Fire Company and South Ward Fire Company, as well as Tamaqua Police, Tamaqua Ambulance and Lehighton Ambulance. Tamaqua Fire Police directed traffic around the area for the duration.
