Ashland Historical Marker Declared "Marker of the Week" by Web Site

The "Historical Marker Database" (hmdb.org)  is an illustrated searchable online catalog of historical information viewed through the filter of roadside and other permanent outdoor markers, monuments, and plaques. It contains photographs, inscription transcriptions, marker locations, maps, additional information and commentary, and links to more information.

The web site is ran by volunteers from around the country and ran by 303 active contributing correspondents.

This week, the web site declared Ashland's, Ashland Boys' Association, historical marker it's "Marker of the Week".

The web site states "This marker's page tells the inspirational story of an association of former residents of Ashland who had to leave town to look for work when anthracite coal mining failed in the late 1800's. Ashland men and boys returned home this week every year for more than a century to visit the old hometown and march in a grand parade. This unique show of attachment to family, friends, and comforts of home built the Mothers’ Memorial statue that became association’s legacy—an American icon and a symbol of motherhood."

Ashland will hold it's annual ABA parade this coming Saturday.
