Senate Confirms Two Schuylkill County Row Officers

HARRISBURG – The Senate of Pennsylvania unanimously confirmed the governor’s nominations of Ann Dudish as the Schuylkill County Recorder of Deeds and Thomas Campion as the Schuylkill County Clerk of Courts, according to Senator David G. Argall (R-29).

“These two qualified individuals will serve Schuylkill County well,” Argall said. “These two vacancies were created in very different situations, each important to the people of Schuylkill County.”

In August, Governor Tom Corbett nominated Dudish and Campion to their respective positions after vacancies were created in the two row offices. The law mandates that a Senate majority is required to confirm all nominations of the governor and that the new appointments must belong to the same political party as the official who served prior to the vacancy in office.

“These two individuals were highly recommended to me on a bipartisan basis by residents throughout the county,” Argall said.

The untimely death of former Recorder of Deeds Matt Dudish this summer created a vacancy in the Recorder of Deeds office.

“Matt was a hard-worker and consensus builder. His passing was felt throughout the county and across political parties. I am confident Ann can step into her new role and continue Matt’s legacy as a dedicated public servant,” Argall said.

In the second case, after a report issued by County Controller Christy Joy, a vacancy at the top post in the Clerk of Courts office was created when former Clerk of Courts Steve Lukach resigned amid an ongoing investigation by the FBI, State Police and the County District Attorney Christine Holman.

“Schuylkill County needed someone who could remove the cloud over the Clerk of Courts office,” Argall said. “Tom was the unanimous, bipartisan choice who we believe will serve Schuylkill County well in his new capacity. Tom pledged to the Senate that he would not seek election in 2015. Instead he will concentrate all of his efforts on regaining the trust of the county’s residents.”

A swearing-in ceremony will be held in the coming days at the Schuylkill County Courthouse.
