The break is reported in the area of Main Street and Pine Street. Water may be turned off in the entire borough until the break is fixed.
Residents are urged to prepare for a water outage.
UPDATE (11:00pm) - Mahanoy City residents affected by the water outage can fill jugs at North Main Street near Child Development.
UPDATE (9:00pm) - Crews are on scene and the break is expected to be fixed by morning. Water is expected to be shut off some time this evening.
