Rush Township Police Apprehend Man After Motorcycle Pursuit; Cocaine Found

A man is in Schuylkill County Prison after leading police in a chase Saturday.


A Wilkes Barre man is facing multiple charges after a Saturday afternoon incident. Saturday May 30, around 1:50 PM an officer on patrol noticed a Kawasaki sport bike traveling at a high rate of speed on Claremont Avenue (SR309). As the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the motorcycle rapidly accelerated, ignoring the pursuing officer's lights and sirens.

Following a brief pursuit, officers were able to apprehend the man when afternoon traffic impeded his escape. Once in custody officers transported the man to the Rush Township Police Department for processing. At the Police Department the man struggled with officers as he attempted to ingest an unknown controlled substance. Upon searching the man officers discovered 22 grams of Cocaine and $2143 in United States currency.

Benigno Negron-Cedeno, 33, of Wilkes Barre was charged with one Felony count of, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, one misdemeanor count each of, Tampering with or Destroying Physical Evidence, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.

Negron-Cedeno appeared before District Magistrate Stephen Bayer for a formal arraignment. Bayer set bail at $50,000 straight, unable to immediately produce $50,000 Negron-Cedeno was committed and transported to the Schuylkill County Correctional Facility where he awaits a Preliminary Hearing date.
