Dawn M. (Goho) Huggins, mother, sister, niece, of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones at Lehigh Valley Hospital Salisbury Twp., having fought a courageous battle against cancer, at the age of 35. 

Survived by her husband, Lesroy Huggins of Fayetteville, North Carolina; beloved daughter, Amara Marie Goho of Tamaqua; sisters, Pamela A, Goho, and Ashley R. Goho both of Tamaqua; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Dawn. 

A 2000 graduate of Tamaqua High School, Dawn attended L.C.C.C. before enlisting in the United States Army serving honorably for four years before entering the Army Reserves. She worked for the Deparment of Defense as a Human Resources Specialist at Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, NC, until recently moving to Ft. Leavenworth in KS. 

Born Tuesday, May 18, 1982 in Coaldale the daughter of the late Robert W. Goho, and Sharon R. (McCarroll) Goho. She was also predeceased by her sister, Tammy Rose Goho. 

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. of 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252. (570) 668-2550 

A Funeral service will be held on Friday December 29, 2017 at 11 o'clock AM from the fuenral home. Friends may call on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8:00 P.M. 

Interment will be in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Tamaqua Pennsylvania. 

A Memorial Fund to secure her daughters education will be established in Amara Marie Goho's name. Funds may be sent in care of the fuenral home.

Marlene M. Kunkel, 73, of Washington Street, Tamaqua, PA died on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at home. 

Born in Coaldale, PA on November 23, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Marlin A. and Margaret (nee Flemming) Fritz. A 1962 graduate of Tamaqua High School, Marlene worked at Fegley's Mini Mart where her infectious smile had patrons referring to her as Mom and Gram and she had a very positive impact on all who walked through the door. 

She loved spending time with her children and sister and visiting casinos. Marlene was Protestant by faith. 

She is survived by her children, Raymond Kunkel and his companion, Sheila McArdle of Summit Hill, PA, Margie Kunkel of Tamaqua, and Michael Kunkel of Tamaqua; grandchildren, Brianna Kunkel, Brenna Kunkel, Kylie Huegel, and Becca Kunkel; and her sister, Shirley Kane of Tamaqua with whom she resided. Marlene was preceded in death by her step dad Hugh Gallagher who raised her as his own daughter. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 30 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with The Rev. Kevin Roberts officiating. 

Interment in Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown, PA will follow the service. Call 9-11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home.

Peter P. “Polka Pete” Calabrese, 90, a resident of Manor Care Health Services Pottsville, died Sunday morning at the Manor.

Born in Silver Creek February 5, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles and Rose (Notaro) Calabrese.

He was a graduate of the former Blythe Township High School where he played various sports. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and a member of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Middleport American Legion, the Black Diamond Navy Club, Minersville, and a former member of the Coal Cracker Polka Association. In addition to his memberships he enjoyed bowling.

He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired as a welder from the former Steco Trailer Sales, St. Clair.

Polka Pete was an avid dancer. His proudest moment was when he won a Ballroom Dance Contest at Merv Griffin’s Resorts Casino in Atlantic City. He was awarded a vacation at Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marie (Pezzetti) Calabrese (1978); brothers Frankie and Mickey Calabrese; and sisters Jane Grant and Rose Belko.

He is survived by his children Margaret Daniels wife of Robert, Pottsville; Peter Calabrese husband of Constance, Auburn; Rosemarie Jefferson wife of Kurt, Greenwood DE; and Daniel Calabrese husband of Charyl, Mechanicsburg. He was affectionately known as “Pop” to his 9 grandchildren, Robert husband of Denise; Bryan husband of Kelly; Kristie wife of Daniel Fanelli; Alexandria; Kurt husband of Angela; Lindsey wife of Jeff Clark; Daniel husband of Nicole; Anthony husband of Theresa; and Nicholas husband of Danielle; and “Pop -Pop” to his 16 great-grandchildren, Kira, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Emily, Bryan, Caleb, Daniel, Sophia, Cole, Colton, Lila, Jase, Vincent, Dominic, Isabella, and Remington.

He is also survived by a brother Charles Calabrese, Palo Alto; sisters Mary Nazar, Middleport; JoAnne Palko, Pottsville; sister in law Helene Calabrese; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Saturday December 30 at St. Patrick RC Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 AM at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 515 West Market Street Pottsville PA. Interment with military honors will be held in St. Joseph RC Cemetery, Pottsville.

Jean “Jeanne” M. Joyce, 73, Girardville passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday morning.

Born in Shenandoah she was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Jean Marquardt Gower.

She was a member of the former St. Joseph’s Church, Girardville, now St. Charles Borromeo Parish, a 1962 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School, member of the ladies dart team of Fr. Sheridan Council, Knights of Columbus, Girardville. She was a baby sitter for all her nieces and nephews and beyond and was an avid Notre Dame football fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Joyce in 2008, her brother Thomas Gower, her niece Tomee Leigh Gower, two nephews; Patrick Yackera and Jason Peppas and a sister-in-law Mary Ann Gower.

Jeanne is survived by three brothers; James( Barbara ) Gower, FL, Bill Gower, Girardville and John ( Jane ) Gower, Frackville, her sister Carolyn wife of Joe Yackera, Girardville, sisters-in-law; Joni Gower, Girardville, Betty ( Joe ) Subick, FL and Marie ( Bob ) Breininger, Germanville, Nieces; Sherie ( Rick ) Boyer, Sharon (Rick) White, Erin Gower, Kitsa ( Phil ) Gorseline, Lisa Jeffries, Carol Arnold and Gina Neary, Nephews; Dimitri ( Cindy) Peppas, Bill (Pam) Gower, Brian (Michelle) Gower, Joseph Yackera, John Gower, Harry, John and Fr. David Hreshko, Dominic, Andrew and Michael Breininger also by “ Her Kid “ Jason ( Tiffany) Burke and their children Mikayla and Michael, beloved cat “JJ”, several grand-nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Girardvile, with Rev. Paul Rothermel, pastor, as the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fountain Springs. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. with scripture service at 7:30 and Friday morning from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m..

In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions, in Jeanne name, to the Hospice of your choice.
