Two Families Displaced By Fire in Mahanoy City

Two families displaced after fire in Mahanoy City, Friday.


At 4:19pm, emergency personnel were called to  508 West Spruce Street, Mahanoy City for a fire on the second floor of the home.

A second alarm and a tanker task force was issued immediately, due to water conditions in the borough, but both were later cancelled.

The fire was contained to the front bedroom of 508 West Spruce,  and was brought under control in about an hour.  The rest of the home suffered smoke and water damage.

The home next door at 510 West Spruce Street also suffered smoke and water damage.

All homes had working smoke detectors.

The occupants of 508 West Spruce Street, Megan Taris and her children, are staying with family. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents of 510 West Spruce Street, Melody Watkins, and her family.

One juvenile who resides at 508 West Spruce, where the fire originated, suffered minor burns to their hand,and was treated at the scene by Mahanoy City EMS.

According to Mahanoy City Fire Public Information Officer David Truskowsky, the cause of the fire is believed to have been electrical in nature and is not considered suspicious.
