North Schuylkill Students Raise Over $14,000 to Support Families of Children Facing Pediatric Cancer

Overnight Friday into Saturday, over 100 students from the North Schuylkill School District participated in their annual ThinkBIG dance marathon.

The marathon, which is organized completely by students, is the final event of their yearlong campaign to raise money for the ThinkBIG Pediatric Cancer Fund, which supports the families of children who are battling cancer at the Geisinger Janet Weis Children's Hospital, Danville.

The event ran from 9:00pm Friday evening until 9:00am Saturday morning with more fun than just dancing to keep the kids busy and on their feet overnight.  Students participated in dodgeball, a talent show, Glow Stick Dance Party, kickball, basketball, cornhole, and karoake.

Throughout the school year, students participated in  t-shirt sales, a gold sock sale during football season, and a toy bingo to help raise money for the fund as well.

"The community really comes to together and really supports us, and the kids really enjoy doing it to help other kids", said Linsey Wesner, President of North Schuylkill's ThinkBIG Club.

Wesner approached teachers during her freshman year after hearing about the Mount Carmel School District participating in ThinkBIG.  In 2017, the club held it's first event and raised over $11,000.

The dance has also grown to include elementary students earlier Friday evening.

On Saturday morning, after the marathon, the club revealed that they beat their goal of last year and raised $14,200.
