Mahanoy City Car Dealership Owner Charged for Rolling Back Odometer

A Mahanoy City car dealership owner has been charged after he allegedly rolled back the odometer on a vehicle he sold.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Reading, George Mammarella, 58, the owner of Village Auto in Mahanoy City, was charged last week after an investigation found that he sold a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado for $10,000 with only 61,000 miles on it on May 19, 2018.

The investigation found that even though the odometer showed 61,000 miles, the vehicle had logged 344,174 miles.

Mammarella was charged with theft by deception, deceptive business practices, tampering with records, engaging in unprofessional conduct, and substantial misrepresentation of material fact.
