Lena R. “Lee” Shamonsky, 88 of Palo Alto, died Saturday at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

She was born April 4, 1930 in Pottsville the daughter of the late Sabatino and Josephine Tranquillo Quercia.

She was a 1948 graduate of Pottsville High School.

Prior to retiring she worked for the former Angela Sportswear in Port Carbon which was owned and operated by the Valent family whom she was the very best of friends with the Valent girls.

Lee was a member of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, Port Carbon.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas F. Shamonsky in 1994; 2 brothers Joseph and Alfred Querica; Surviving are two daughters, Patricia L. Hollywood and her husband Thomas, Palo Alto and Susan Shamonsky, Pottsville; a grandson, Brandon Hollywood; a great-granddaughter, Malena Hollywood; a brother, Michael Quercia and his wife Barbara Schoentown; nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be announced at a later date. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to St. Joseph School for Special Learning 2075 W. Norwegian St. Pottsville PA, 17901 or St. Stephen Memorial Fund, 218 Valley St. Port Carbon PA, 17965. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Richard C. Oswald, 79, of Zerbe, Reilly Township, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday at home.

Born in the home where he lived, he was a son of the late Thomas and Catherine McCaughy Oswald. He was a 1958 graduate of Tremont High School. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Swatara Coal Company and later worked for Berks Soil and Stone.

He was a member of the Muddy Creek Sportsman’s Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Oswald.

He is survived by his wife, the former Lorelei Stine, to whom he was married for 60 years; six children, Linda Russell, New Ringgold, Sheila Turick (spouse, Joseph), Quakertown, Yvonne Malatino (spouse, Paul), Crofton, Maryland, Laurie Hoffman (spouse, John), Minersville, Richard Oswald, (spouse, Angela), Zerbe, and Jamie Oswald, Zerbe; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara Ditzler, Pittston; nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville on Friday from 6:00 A.M. until funeral services at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, North Manheim Township.
