Food Tray Manufacturer to Purchase Former City Shirt Plant in Frackville; Bringing New Jobs

Clearly Clean Products, LLC, a recyclable food tray manufacturer, announced Thursday that it is expanding its North American footprint by purchasing and renovating an additional 80,000 sq. ft. thermoforming plant in Frackville, Pa.

The project will initially create approximately 25 new jobs – and that number is expected to grow to more than 125 in the region as the company further expands its line operations and builds out its tooling.

The Frackville plant, which brings Clearly Clean’s total number of locations to seven, will produce the company’s patented 100% recyclable, smooth-edged Roll Over-Wrap™ trays and vacuum-sealed packaging (VSP) trays as well as its patented, award-winning, recyclable modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) trays. Clearly Clean’s recyclable food trays can be utilized for meat, poultry, seafood, produce, and deli. They can also be customized in terms of size, shape, and color.

Numerous citywide and countywide bans on polystyrene ("Styrofoam"-type foamed plastics) – combined with consumer pressure and corporate commitment -- are fueling the demand for eco-friendly packaging and accelerating the sustainability timelines of many organizations. Clearly Clean's trays utilize PET, the same material used in recyclable water bottles, offering a recyclable, smooth-edged tray option to grocery stores, food processors, and packaging distributors.

“We are excited that companies are realizing the benefits of Clearly Clean’s patented smooth-edged, recyclable trays, which are three times the strength of polystyrene, are environmentally friendly, and help mitigate leakers,” said Millard Wallace, a managing partner at Clearly Clean. “We are also excited that this strong demand allows us to bring additional economic opportunities to Schuylkill County. Clearly Clean is rapidly expanding and has been hiring for practically every position, from lawyers to engineers and production line workers.”

Over the last year, the company has added multiple big-name clients and grown 550 percent – and is poised to grow at an even faster pace in 2019.

“Clearly Clean needed a large facility that would accommodate our additional assets and personnel,” said Jeff Maguire, a managing partner at Clearly Clean. “We decided on Frackville so that we were in the vicinity of our Orwigsburg, Pa., plant -- yet able to recruit from a broader geographic region.”

“Clearly Clean’s expansion in Schuylkill County is great news for the workers and their families in the region,” Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf said. “This administration is committed to supporting manufacturing projects that create jobs and boost the local economy. I commend Clearly Clean for recognizing the benefits of Pennsylvania and choosing to expand its presence here.”
