David J. Yelito, Dad, Pop-Pop, Pappy, brother, of West Phillips Street Coaldale, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2019 in Lake Hauto surrounded by his family at the age of 64; having fought a courageous battle against cancer.

Born Tuesday, September 7, 1954 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, son of the late Alfred and Margaret (Boyle) Yelito. Dave was also preceded in death by his sister Catherine Jane Yelito and infant grandson.

Surviving are sons, Jason David Yelito and his wife Denise of Nesquehoning, Louis Joseph Yelito and his wife Elizabeth “Libby” of Nesquehoning, Nicholas Allen Yelito and his wife Melissa, daughter Jennel Lynn Swenson wife of William; brothers, Thomas Yelito, Dennis Yelito, Daniel Yelito, and Louis Yelito; sisters, Rosemary Burney and Margaret Ann Samson; grandchildren, Ja’Shon, Jager, Axel, River, and a future grandchild on the way from his youngest son.

A Tamaqua High School graduate, class of 1973, Dave was a self-employed contractor while owning, maintaining, and renovating the Laurel Hill Apartments in Coaldale. Never letting his diagnosis slow him down, he left a mark of his talents by helping to renovate his siblings’ and each of his childrens’ properties. An avid sports fan, he reveled in the athletic accomplishments of his children and prided himself on never missing a game, meet, or match. He also coached youth sports and was an accomplished cyclist, often seen peddling up the Summit Hill hill and throughout the region alongside his daughter Jennel. In addition, Dave gave back by volunteering his time and skills in the Coaldale community.

A Celebration of Dave's life will take place on Tuesday evening March 26, 2019 at 7 o'clock P.M. from the funeral home. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until time of services.

Private Interment will be in St. Jerome R.C.C., Cemetery, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.

Mildred J. Barrett, 86, of Coaldale, PA died on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at home. She was the wife of the late Thomas Barrett who died in 2001. Born in Coaldale on March 17, 1933, Mildred was a daughter of the late Michael and Tillie (nee Nesterak) Jabbo. A 1950 graduate of the former Coaldale High School, she worked in the banking industry, first as a teller and then as an administrative assistant at the Pennsylvania National Bank in Lansford, PA. Formerly a member of St. Mary of Assumption Church, Coaldale prior to its closing, Mildred currently was a member of The Parish of St. John XXIII, Tamaqua, PA. She was also a former member of the St. Ann Council of Catholic Women. Mildred is survived by daughters, Maureen Barrett of Bath, PA, Michelle Halenar and her husband Ronald of Lehighton, PA, and Monica Dunn and her husband Joseph of Mary Esther, FL; grandchildren, Colleen Barrett, Joseph Dunn, Jared Dunn, and Kate Halenar; nephews; and nieces. She was predeceased by brothers, Joseph Jabbo and John Jabbo and sister, Rose Stricek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 25 in St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 307 Pine Street, Tamaqua. Interment in St. Jerome Cemetery, Lombard Street, Tamaqua will follow the mass. Call 9-10:30 AM on Monday at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad Street, Tamaqua.
