Gas Leak in Pottsville Closes Roads and Forces Evacuations

A gas leak in Pottsville Friday morning has forced road closures and prompted evacuations in the area of the leak.


Around 10:00am, emergency personnel were dispatched to 2261 West Market Street for the report of a gas leak.

Early reports were workers in the area struck a gas line, but that has not been confirmed.

As of 10:45am, we have received word that businesses in the area including Boyer's Market and Aaron's have been evacuated and a 400 foot perimeter has been set up.

Pottsville Fire, along with fire crews from Port Carbon and Minersville have been called to the area to assist with evacuations.

UGI officials are reported to be at the scene.
