Evacuations Taking Place for Reported Gas Leak in Cressona

Emergency personnel are evacuating a plant and homes after a reported natural gas leak in Cressona Tuesday evening.


Around 9:45pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to Hydro Extrusion located at 53 Pottsville Street, in Cressona for a reported natural gas leak.

The Hydro Extrusion Plant and homes on Alcoa Street and nearby streets have also been evacuated while authorities use monitors to test the air quality.

Cressona Fire and Schuylkill Haven Fire have been called to scene to assist with air monitoring and evacuations.

UPDATE:  Columbia Avenue has been as a Street being evacuated.  Schuylkill Emergency Management is on stand by.  UGI is responding to the scene.

UPDATE:  According to radio traffic, UGI is allowing those who live nearby to return to their homes.    The smell of natural gas will linger.  Air monitoring is still taking place inside the plant.

UPDATE:  At 10:40pm, emergency personnel were going available but remaining at the scene on stand by.
