Shirley A. Schaffner, 84, formerly of Muir, passed onto her heavenly home, Wednesday, September 11th at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg, after a long illness with dementia and Parkinson's.

Born in Muir, May 15, 1935, a daughter of the late Roy and Ann Hand Witmer.

Shirley was a woman of great faith and a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Orwin and its' Ladies Aid.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Dean E. Schaffner, January 19, 2001; her son, Timothy Schaffner, August 30, 2016.

Shirley was the youngest of siblings who all preceded her in death, brothers; Lester, John, Harry, and Clifford (Chip) Witmer; sisters, Elizabeth (Sis) Hummel, Catherine (Sal) Koehler and Rose Shollenberger.

Shirley loved her family and before her illness enjoyed reading her bible, books, planting flowers, writing about her life experiences and poems and most of all cooking and baking for her family, friends and church events.

Surviving are her daughter, Letitia Reiser and her companion Kimber Uranko, Pottsville, daughter-in-law, Sandy Schaffner, Delaware; grandchildren, Amber Gabrielson (Kenneth), Selinsgrove; Tiffany Underkoffler (Carl), Tower City; Rian Schaffner (Erin), Elizabethville; Jordin Williams (Curtis), Delaware; great grandchildren, Drew, Lexy, Zakary, Ally, Caleb, Tyler, Tarrance, Braylon and Prestin. Nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be he held Saturday, September 14th at 11 am from St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Orwin. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 at the church. Memorial donations in Shirley's memory can be made to St. Peter's U.C.C., 427 Dietrich Avenue, Orwin, PA 17980. Carolyn M. Obaza, 93, of Hegins, formerly of Nanticoke, passed away Tuesday, September 10th at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Plains, PA, March 25, 1926, a daughter of the late Stephen and Carolyn Chabala Boback.

Carolyn worked as a waitress for many years in restaurants in the Nanticoke area, she also assisted her son David in his business, Nentego Dental, Hughestown.

She was member of Saint Faustina Roman Catholic Church, Nanticoke where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Edward Boback and a son-in-law, David Washburn.

She is survived by two children, Carolyn Washburn, Niagara Falls, NY and David Obaza and his wife Kathleen, Hegins; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mary Ann Perchinski-Dougal, 53, of Ashland, PA passed away Friday, September 6, 2019 in Ashland.

Born October 20, 1965 in Ashland the daughter of the late Stephen and Janet (Hubler) Perchinski.
Mary Ann graduated from North Schuylkill High School. She worked as a cook at the Mineshaft Cafe.
Mary Ann is survived by a son and daughter: Robert McManus and Fae McManus. Sister: Anna Bucher. Brothers: Walter Perchinski and John Perchinski. Grandchildren: Olivia, Ashton, and Aiden Clews.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, September 13, 2019 at the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland.

Emilie Schmauch, 91, of Topton, PA and formerly of Macungie, PA and Mahanoy City, PA, died on Monday, September 9, 2019 in Topton. She was the wife of the late Dr. George E. Schmauch, Sr. who died June 11, 2016. They had been married almost 65 years at the time of his death. 

Born in Shenandoah, PA on July 1, 1928, Emilie was the daughter of the late Harry and Margaret (nee Murray) Luke. A 1946 graduate of Mahanoy City High School, she also graduated from Bucknell University in 1950. While at Bucknell, Emilie was a drum major and a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority and she remained very loyal to her college alma mater. During her working career, Emilie was a teacher for the Swain School in Allentown, PA. She was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Allentown where she had been very involved in congregational activities. Emilie was also an active member of the Lehigh Valley Hospital Auxiliary where she assisted with the auxiliary gift shop. She loved to entertain in her home, was an avid knitter, played the piano and organ, and was a good cook. 

Emilie is survived by daughter, Barbara L. Reed and her husband, Joseph A. of York, PA; son, George E. Schmauch, Jr. of Macungie; daughter-in-law, Andrea Schmauch of Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Johnathan Schmauch, Andrew Schmauch, and Marissa Schmauch, Emilie Reed, and Hannah Reed; and several nephews and nieces. 

She was predeceased by a son, Dr. Edward H. Schmauch who died in 2014. 

Services will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, September 18 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua, PA. Burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery, 501 West Broad Street, Tamaqua will follow the services. Call 1-2 PM, Sept 18 at the funeral home. Miguel Miranda, 58, of Auburn, passed away on Tuesday in his residence.

Born in Conception, Chile, on April 26, 1961, he was a son of the late Sergio Orlando Miranda Desmond
and Ana Eulogia Eizaguirre Santana.

Miguel was of the Catholic faith.

He was a resident of and in the care of the RedCo Group, Saint Clair.

Miguel is survived by brothers: Sergio, Julian, Hector, Agustin, Marcos, and Victor ; sisters: Margarita, Victoria, Ximena, and Virginia ; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on September 12th, at 3:00 p.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville. A viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
