Fire Levels Home Early Thursday near Shenandoah; Four Victims Being Assisted

A fire destroyed a home early Thursday morning in West Mahanoy Township.


Just before 5:30am, emergency personnel were called to a fully engulfed house fire at 1139 West Center Street in the Brownsville section of West Mahanoy Township.

Emergency personnel at the scene stated they could see the flames as far as Shenandoah as they were responding.

As crews arrived, they found the home completely engulfed.  Crews also fought high winds with embers from the fire blowing towards nearby homes.

A tanker task force was also issued.

By 7:00am, the fire was under control with the home collapsing into a pile a rubble.  A nearby garage was also damaged.

All occupants of the home escaped without injury.

According to the American Red Cross, 4 victims are being assisted lodging, clothing, and food.

A State Police Fire Marshal will be at the scene on Thursday to investigate a cause.
