Kenneth R. Jocken, 66, Minersville, passed away on Thursday at home.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Robert and Doris Cordall Jocken. He was a 1971 graduate of Minersville Area High School. He was employed in the local brewing industry, first working for Mount Carbon Brewery, then for D. G. Yuengling & Son in both the Pottsville and Mill Creek breweries for more than thirty years.

He was a member of the former Emanuel UCC Church, Minersville; and currently worshipped at First Congregational Church, Minersville. He volunteered as a youth sports coach for Minersville area football and softball programs. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, following both the Eagles and Phillies.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Ann Stephen, in 2009; a brother, Ralph Jocken, in 2013.

Ken is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Molly Hossler; three children, Amy Androshick (spouse, Bruce), Saint Clair, Kyle Jocken, Minersville, and Thomas Jocken (spouse, Amanda), Jonestown, Cass Township; four grandchildren, Ava and Ella Androshick, Evan Jocken and Kayla Jocken. He is also survived by two sisters, Bonnie King, Panama City Beach, Florida, and Kimberly Firestine (spouse, Albert), Minersville; nieces and nephews.

Services are private.

Melvin T. “Herk” Cappel , 75, of 100 North Third Street, St. Clair, died Wednesday December 11, 2019, at Lehigh Valley Health Network – Schuylkill – East , Pottsville .

Born in Port Carbon, March 2, 1944, He was a son of Harry and Florence (Barnes) Cappel.

He was a retired Operation Manager at Office Max, Hazelton and Distribution Manager for 18 years at Wrights Knitwear.

He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, St. Clair where he was an Elder on their Consistory. Life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mel loved to travel but the most important thing in his life was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a bother Harry Cappel; 3 sisters Minervia Chisnell; Pearl Vinc and Victoria Harris.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years Rosaline (Berdanier) Cappel, son Melvin Cappel and his wife Heather of St. Clair; daughter Lisa Snyder of St. Clair; 6 grandchildren: Richard Cappel, Dylan Cappel, Lucy Snyder, Melvin Cappel , Cora Snyder and Lily Snyder.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday from St. John United Church of Christ, 45 S. Front St. St. Clair. Friends may call from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sunday and 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM Monday at the Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home 110 North 2nd Street St. Clair, PA 17970. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gift of Life Famiily House 401 Callowhill St. Philadelphia, PA 19123. Burial with military honors in Odd Fellows Cemetery, St. Clair .
