Esther T. Smith, 95, of Pottsville passed away Thursday morning at Orwigsburg Center.

Born November 1, 1924, in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Goodman) Smith.

Esther was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. She was a 1942 Graduate of Pottsville Area High School. After graduating she worked for Bell Telephone as a telephone operator.

Esther loved going to local bingo events with her sisters and going to local casinos. She was devoted taking care of her mother in her advanced stages of life.

She is survived by brother-in-law, Eugene Gustitis; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as, great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by siblings, Florence (Sister Rosemarie S.C.C.), Joseph Smith, Mary Smith, Dorothy Muldowney, Geraldine Haney, Ruth Murphy, Elizabeth Gustitis, and Rose Marie Rabuck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30am on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 913 Mahantongo St, Pottsville, Rev. David Loeper, Off. Family and friends may call from 10:30am until mass at the church. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Elizabeth E. "Betty" Byatt, beloved mother, grandmother, 91 years of age, formerly of Tamaqua Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, Pennsylvania.

Born Tuesday, January 1, 1929 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Floyd and Anna (Matsick) Eveland. She was also predeceased by her husband of 62 yrs., Robert W. Byatt.

Surviving are children, Susan E. Perry wife of Jason of East Stroudsburg, Robert D. Byatt and his wife Mary of Washington Township, NJ,, Mary Ann Byatt of Center Valley; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Byatt and her companion Brendan Balke, and Collin Perry.

A 1946 graduate of Tamaqua High School, Betty was a member of St. John XX III R.C.C. of Tamaqua. Betty had worked for the former Coaldale State Hospital and was a member of the Henry Baker Knights of Columbus Ladies Aux.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 30, 2020 at 10:30 o'clock AM from St. John XXIII R.C.C. located at 307 Pine Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252, Rev. Thomas Orsulak to officate.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 30, 2020, in the church social hall.

Interment St. Jerome R.C.C. Cemetery, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.

Richard W. Huff, 68, of Pine Grove, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Schuylkill Center in Pottsville.
Born on October 2, 1951 in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Harry Sr. and Lorraine Hufnagle Huff.
He was a 1969 graduate of Blue Mt. High School.
Richard worked at Guilford Mills in Pine Grove.
He owned race cars, enjoyed racing and was inducted into the Coal Region Racing Hall of Fame in April 2019. He also enjoyed softball, taking photographs at the Fredericksburg Speedway and was a New York Yankees Fan.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Donna E. Dinger Huff.
Surviving are a son, Matthew and wife Renee Huff of Pine Grove; four grandsons, Osric, Dryden, Caius and Gideon Huff; three brothers, Harry Huff, Jr. and Bob Huff, both of Florida, David Huff of Friedensburg.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 6:00 P.M. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 312 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove with Pastor Barry Spatz officiating. There will be a visitation on Friday, January 31, 2020, from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Church.
