Ronald C. Donton, 77, of Deturksville Rd., Pine Grove, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon.

Born on January 26, 1943 in Pine Grove, he was a son of the late Hiram and Naomi Hoy Donton.
He attended Pine Grove High School and was a member of Outwood Lutheran Church, Pine Grove.
Ronald was a Coal Miner and retired as a truck driver from AWI, where he was a member of the Teamsters. Upon retiring, he became one of the owners of Donton Trucking.

Preceding him in death were a daughter Karen Myers; two sisters, Leona Bohr and Joan Rittel; a brother, Ricky Donton.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Patricia Yordy Donton; two daughters, Kathy Warner of Pine Grove and Pamela Gehres of Schuylkill Haven; a son Robert Donton of Pine Grove; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a step mother Roland Donton of Pine Grove; step brother Shane Donton of New Jersey; a sister Joyce Kleinfelter of Mississippi.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 10:30 A.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove with Pastor Barry Spatz officiating. There will be a viewing on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville.

Julia Cresina, 95, of Frackville, died Tuesday January 28, 2020 at Broad Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.

Born in Frackville, October 7, 1924, She was a daughter of the Metro and Julia (Dziczek) Halupa.

She worked at the former Raubin Co and Martin Dress Co., Frackville.

She was a member of St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, Frackville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William Cresina on January 4, 1990, 8 brothers; Andrew, John, Michael, Nicholas, Frank, Metro, Harry, Peter Halupa and 1 sister Olga Farrone.

Surviving are daughter Marianne Goodhead of Boynton Beach, FL; 2 sons William Cresina of Kingston, PA; Michael Cresina of Sandpoint, ID; grandson Brandon Cresina, nieces and nephews.

Divine Liturgy will be held at 10:30 AM Monday from St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church 45 S. 2nd St., Frackville, PA 17931. The Rev. Petro Zvarych will be officiating. Friends may call Monday from 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM with Parastas at 9:45 AM at the Nice – Hart Funeral Home 9 North Lehigh Ave. Frackville, PA 17931. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Memorial Fund , 245 S. Middle St., Frackville, PA 17931. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Frackville.

Helen M. Onuskanich, 90, of Frackville passed away unexpectedly at her residence Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Born in Minersville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Gutswa Kordish. She was a graduate of Minersville High School, class of 1948.

She was Mom, Grammy, Babcia, Helcha and Helen; dearly loved and will never be forgotten. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and always enjoyed family gatherings and watching her family grow.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Frackville, and was active with many church functions; she was also a member of the Frackville Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Michael Onuskanich, in 2018; a sister; Louise Houser and two brothers; John and Thomas Kordish.

Helen is survived by a daughter; Jane Halupa and husband Stephen; a son; Michael Onuskanich and his wife Theresa; all of Frackville; grandchildren; Michael and Becca Onuskanich, David and Amanda Onuskanich, Luke Onuskanich, Amy and Jared Rickert and Lisa Halupa; great-grandchildren; Ava, Benjamin, Aubrey and Mason; a sister; Mildred Garbardi, Minersville; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning, February 3rd, at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Frackville, with Rev. Brian Miller, as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation with family from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Albert L. Gricoski Funeral Home, Frackville. Interment will be in Mount Peace Cemetery, Minersville.

James E. Connors, 67, of Orwigsburg, passed away on Wednesday at home.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie Brahler Connors. He was a 1971 graduate of Pottsville High School; and attended Penn State. He had been employed on highway construction.

He was a member of the Second Mountain Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing; and was an avid arrowhead collector.

He was preceded in death by two siblings, Joseph Connors and Fay Wagg.

He is survived by his wife, the former Karen Yalsovec, to whom he was married for 23 years; four children, Billie Jo Schuettler (Michael), Pottsville, David Connors, Pottsville, Stephen Whetstone (Faye), Minersville, and Ryan Whetstone (Jessica), Moosic; eight grandchildren, Samantha Cooper, Amanda Whetstone, Cody Whetstone, Madeline Schuettler, Matthew Schuettler, Chase Whetstone, Carter Whetstone, and Cole Whetstone. He is also survived by two sisters, Judith Eglington, Apollo Beach, Florida, and Sandy Liott (Rocco), Carmel, Indiana; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday evening in St. Clare of Assisi R.C. Church, Mill & Hancock Streets, Saint Clair. Joan M. Pizzico, 79, of Minersville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Providence Place, Pottsville surrounded by her family.​

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Julia Mosley Plesnarski. She was the Salutatorian of the 1957 graduation class of Cass Township High School. She was married to her husband Ernest for 60 years. Joan worked briefly at Economy Supply, Pottsville and she was last employed at the Office Mall, Pottsville.​

Joan was a member of the former St. Barbara Church, Minersville, and a current member of St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, Minersville. Joan lived life to the fullest and always focused on her family. She enjoyed playing Trivial Pursuit, playing cards with her friends and being the best Grammy to her 10 grandkids.​

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Plesnarski and a granddaughter, Kayla Malick. ​

Joan is survived by her husband, Ernest and their six children, Michelle Lescavage (Bernard Jr.), Minersville, Linda Wilhelm (Jim), Dover, Delaware, Susan Long (Barry), Wayne Township, David Pizzico (Lori), West West Terrace, Branch Township, Melissa Argall (Douglas), Lancaster and Krista Serrian (Mark), Pottsville; nine grandchildren, Leigh Reed (Christopher), Jenna Fehr (Jason), Elena Long (Julian), Bryan Long (Nicole), Dominic Pizzico, Brady and Kaitlyn Argall and Tobias and Lyla Serrian; five great-grandchildren Lena, Eli and Ava Marie Reed and Benjamin and Theodore Long; a brother, John R. Plesnarski, Tremont; a sister, Deborah Lord (Harry), Auburn; many nieces and nephews.​

​The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville, on Sunday from 2:00 P.M until 5:00 P.M. and on Monday from 6:00 A.M. Visitation will end promptly at 9:15 A.M. when procession will form. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Matthew the Evangelist Church, 139 Spruce Street, Minersville. Interment will be in St. Barbara Cemetery, Branch Township. David B. Yakamavage, 58, of West West Terrace, Branch Township, passed away on Tuesday at home.

Born in Pottsville, he was a son of Barbara Dando Yakamavage, Branch Township, and the late Joseph Yakamavage. He was a 1979 graduate of Minersville Area High School, and attended Susquehanna University.

He was a Navy veteran, having served for 6 years in the Submarine Service aboard the USS Whale (SSN-638). He was a graduate of the Naval Nuclear Power School. His awards included the Good Conduct Medal, The Navy Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Sea Service Ribbon. He also received two letters of commendation from Commander, Submarine Group Nine.

As a civilian, he had been employed as plant supervisor at several local cogeneration plants.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Kathy Depsky, in 2012.

In addition to his mother, David is survived by two sisters, Terri Leshko (spouse, Charles), Minersville, and Michele Yakamavage, RN, Branch Township; two nieces, Lauren Leshko and Leah Leshko; a nephew, Christopher Leshko.

Rosalie Schneck, age 71, of Pottsville, PA, passed away with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 at her home.

Born in Pottsville, PA on September 24, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Bertha (Zvorsky) Messina.

Rosalie was a graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School, class of 1966 and she worked for Alpha Mills in Pottsville 27 years until retiring in 2017.

Rosalie is survived by her daughter Audra Freed and her grandson Eliott Thomas, Port Carbon; her brother Frank Messina and his wife Cheryl, Port Carbon; her sister Janice Freed and her husband Gregg, Pottsville; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held private. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in Rosalie's memory.

Rosemary A. Whetstone, 77 years of age, of East Elm Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at St. Luke's Hospital Allentown surrounded by her beloved family.

Born Friday, July 17, 1942 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Andrew P., and Mary C. (Lacko) Olsovsky. She was also predeceased by; daughters, Angeline Whetstone - Nunemacher, Julia Marie Whetstone; brother, Sgt. Bernard J. Olsovsky.

Surviving are; husband, Joseph C. "Chip" Faust of Tamaqua; son, Andrew A. Whetstone of Lansford; daughters, Jessica A. Goho wife of John of Brockton, Amelia Jo Bieniek wife of Peter of Tamaqua; sister, Bernadine M. Kunkel of Lansford; 7 grand children; 7 great grand children, and many nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Marian Catholic High School of Lansford, Rosemary had worked in the Textile Industry for many years. Rosemary also tended bar at the former Bromco's in Tamaqua. Rosemary enjoyed sewing, spending time on the computer, and the companionship of her dog.

Alice Arlene Vincent, 86, of Providence Place, Pottsville and formerly of Shenandoah, passed away on Saturday, January 25th at her residence. Born in Bellwood, Pa on May 2nd, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Harry and Annabelle Mauk.

She was a graduate of Bellwood High School in Blair county, Pa and worked for Tobias Fashions in Shenandoah and KMART in Frackville. She was an active member of the former Primitive Methodist Church in Shenandoah for many years.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Charles Vincent Sr. in 2002

Surviving are 1 son, Charles Vincent Jr. and his wife Alicia of Orwigsburg, and 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Ethan, Liam, and Da’shawna

Scripture services will be held on Monday, February 3rd at 10:30am from the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah and will be officiated by Pastor Jack Murray. Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to services from 8:30 to 10:30am at the funeral home. Strictly private burial will be conducted in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Joseph R. Hughes, 77 of West West Terrace died Wednesday at home.

He was born October 23, 1942 in Pottsville son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Davis Hughes.

He was a graduate of Cass Township High School.

He was veteran having served in the Army.

He was co-owner of the former Hughes Construction, Inc and was employed by J.W. Zaprazny, New Ringgold, prior to retiring

Joe was a member of Foursquare Gospel Church, Pottsville

He was preceded in death by his first wife Elaine Hughes; a daughter Lisa Hughes; 2 siblings Doris Klotunowitch and Donnie Hughes.
