Mahanoy City Firefighters Respond to Electrical Fire Overnight

The Mahanoy City Fire Department responded to an electrical fire overnight.

Just after 1:00am, emergency personnel were dispatched to 35 East Market Street for a house fire.

Police were the first on scene and as they entered the house, they were able to hear popping come from the basement.

As fire crews arrived and entered the basement, they found the homes electrical box on fire.  PPL was immediately dispatched but the borough's electrician was able to pull the meter to cut electricity to the home.

The fire was reported out within minutes of arrival.

Crews remained on scene, checked for extensions and began overhaul in the basement.  A thermal imaging camera was also used to check for any hot spots.

PPL also assisted at the scene.

By 2:00am, fire crews began clearing the scene.
