UPDATE: Southbound Side Complete; Traffic Pattern Changes as part of the Route 924 Bridge Replacement Project in Gilberton

An update on progress and traffic pattern changes have been announced as part of the bridge replacement project on Route 924 in Gilberton.

According to project managers, the southbound side of the new bridge has been completed and the southbound traffic heading towards Frackville has been moved to the new side.

Northbound traffic still in the process of being moved.

Once traffic is moved, demolition will begin on the northbound side of the bridge, that work is expected within the next week.

Work on the $11.6 Million project began at the end of April/beginning of May 2019 to replace the 5 span, 4 lane structure of the current Route 924 bridge.

The PA 924 “Maizeville” Bridge in Gilberton Borough traverses the Mahanoy Creek, Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad, and State Route 4030 (Main Street).
Work also includes concrete mountable median reconstruction, and approximately 900 feet of milling and paving on both roadway approaches.

The project is expected to be completed in May 2021.
