Firefighters Make Quick Stop; 2nd Alarm House Fire Under Investigation

Firefighters made a quick stop of a house fire in Ashland Wednesday evening.

At 8:55pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1000 block of Market Street in Ashland for a house fire.

Ashland Fire Chief Phil Groody and Police Officer Daniel Weikel were first to the scene and found heavy smoke coming from 1016 Market.

The American Hose Co., Washington Fire Co., and Ranger Hose Co. (Girardville) all arrived on the first due.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm calling in an additional ladder from Mount Carmel, as well Gordon Fire Company, and Englewood Fire for their RIT team.

The fire was reported under control by 9:20pm.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to 1016 Market, which sustained heavy fire damage.  1018 Market suffered smoke and water damage.  Both homes were said to be vacant and not have electricity.

Chief Groody reported that the cause of the fire was unknown and that a State Police Fire Marshall will be at the scene on Thursday.
