James A. Stripe
, 92, of Vienna, VA, formerly of North Liberty Street, Orwigsburg, died Thursday, May 21st, at his residence, with family by his side.

James was born in North Manheim Township on August 3, 1927, a son of the late Annie (Fenstermacher) and Oscar Stripe.

He was the widower of Elizabeth M. (Marotte) Stripe. He was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School, Class of 1945 and he served in the U.S. Army during WW II.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 35 years.

James is survived by his son Mark J. Stripe, husband of Elizabeth A., Vienna, grandson Matthew J. Stripe, Carlisle, and granddaughter Rebecca L. Stripe, Vienna.

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by an infant brother Stanley and brothers Earl and Norman Stripe and sisters Anna Nye, Rose Bolton, Jean Knapp and Margaret Freed.

Interment will be held at Salem Evangelical Cemetery, Orwigsburg at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hillside SPCA Inc., Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901.

Nelson J. Pauly, 91, of Branchdale, Reilly Township, died Monday at his home.

Born in Branch Township on March 4, 1929, he was a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Secula Pauly. He was a graduate of Reilly Township High School. After serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict, he worked as an electronics technician at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation and at the former Olmstead Air Force Base, Middletown. He later worked in the service department for Sears.

He was a member of the former St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Branchdale

Preceding him in death was a son, Richard J. Pauly, in 2019. The last of seven children, he was also predeceased by four brothers, Lawrence Pauly, Louis Pauly, Francis Pauly, and Lambert Pauly; two sisters, Virginia Burgess and Mary Grieff.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Geraldine Smith; ten children, Marie Weikel (spouse, James), Pottsville, Gregory Pauly, Branchdale, Francis Pauly, Branchdale, Edward Pauly, Branchdale, Edwin Pauly, Minersville, Christopher Pauly (spouse, Mandy), Branchdale, Christine Neiswender (spouse, Joseph), Minersville, Eloise Hinkle (spouse, Gary), Minersville, Frederick Pauly, Minersville, and Philip Pauly, Branchdale; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Committal with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township, at a date and time to be announced.

John M. Kruss
, age 75, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Saturday, May 23rd, 2020 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Allentown.

Born in Pottsville, PA on February 26, 1945, he was the son of the late John Michael and Celia Alberta (Merriman) Kruss.

John was a graduate of Pottsville High School, Class of 1963. He served in the U.S. Marines as a Corporal from March of 1963 till October of 1965. John first worked at ALCOA for ten years. He then worked as a Truck Driver for Reading Anthracite in Pottsville for 26 years and was also a local coal delivery man for many years. John last worked for the Schuylkill Transportation System as a van driver for the past 13 years.

John was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in St. Clair, a member of the Middleport Legion for 51 years, and he was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved playing the PA lottery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Jim Kruss and a nephew Jimmy Kruss.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan B. (Woll) Kruss, Port Carbon; four sons: Michael, Thomas, and John Kruss, all of Port Carbon and William Kruss and his wife Jaymee, Pottsville; four grandchildren: Abby, Luke, Teagan, and Zavry; a sister Robin Goodman and her husband Ron, Port Carbon; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in St. Clair at 11am on Friday, May 29th, with Msgr. William Glosser officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Friday 9-11AM at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church.

Interment with Military Honors will be held at the Queen of the Universe Cemetery in Pottsville.

Jeanette Mildred Frantz, age 85, of Coaldale, PA formerly of Wadesville, PA passed away Sunday, May 24th, 2020 at her home.

Born in Reading, PA on February 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Elizabeth (Mills) Witchey and raised and loved by the late Michael and Cecila Garland.

Jeanette was a graduate of Saint Clair High School, Class of 1953. She worked at the Grace Shop and Juliette Bridal in Pottsville. Jeanette was a member of Wade Methodist Church in Saint Clair and the greatest joy in life was her family. She loved spending time together and always looked forward to the family's yearly vacation at the beach.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William E. Frantz on May 30, 2013, a son George Frantz, a grandson George Dougherty, a sister Jane Marie Heckman, and a brother Claude Davis.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter Jane Ann Mickonis, with whom she lived with; three grandchildren: Robert Mickonis, Shawn Mickonis, and Jennifer Roehl; six great-grandchildren: Robby, Shawn, Kaylee, Abby, Molly, and Mikey; three brothers: Michael, James, and Richard Garland; two sisters: Darlene Eubert and Nancy Bridy; and nieces and nephews.

Services and interment will be held private due to the pandemic situation.

Mary J. Thomsin
, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, of Lake Street, Pottsville, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Ctr. in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania at the age of 77 years.

Born Monday, December 14, 1942 in Allentown Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Harry and Gladys (Bollinger) Fields.

Surviving are; husband, Rene Thomsin; daughter, Lisa Gross and her husband James of Jonestown; step-son, Sean Thomsin of Topton; sister, Dianne Conrad; grand children, Travis, Dylan, Dalton; great grandchild, Messiah.

A graduate of Kutztown High School, Mary worked in the textile Industry before working for Kutztown University as a cafeteria aide from which she retired. Mary enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family.

Jane E Deibert, age 86, formerly of Sacramento, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Manor Care, Pottsville.

She was born on Thursday, October 19, 1933, in Pottsville, a daughter of the late William and Juniata Wingert.

She was a graduate of Pottsville High School.

Jane was a seamstress in area garment factories, prior to her retirement.

She attended St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento.

Jane enjoyed yard work, sewing, and camping.

Her husband, Nevin D Deibert, passed away in 2008. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Schwartz; a brother, William Wingert, Jr; and a half brother, Harold Rogers.

She is survived by a son, Paul W Yourshaw of Seltzer; a daughter, Pamela Deibert of Mississippi; four grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Eisenhart of Pottsville, Sara Stephson of Brockton, and Grace Wingert of Pottsville; a brother, James Wingert of Friedensburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Due to the current health concerns, there will be no services.

Burial will be made in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Diana M. Stiely, age 89, of Sacramento, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on Tuesday, August 26, 1930, in Erdman, a daughter of the late John A Hepler and the late Irene M Kessler Hepler.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento.

Diana was a lifelong Phillies fan and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Her husband, Leroy A Stiely, passed away in 2014. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Stiely.

She is survived by a son, Dennis L Stiely and his wife Abbie of Valley View; two granddaughters, Amy Schwalm of Hegins and Beth Coleman and her husband Shawn of Hegins; grandson, Michael Stiely of Valley View; and four great grandchildren Emily Schwalm, Dawson Schwalm, Rylee Coleman, and Chase Coleman.

Due to the current health concerns services will be private.

Burial will be made in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento.
