In 1968, Dave graduated from Pine Grove High School and went on to earn a degree in Accounting from the Ford School of Business. He went on to work for Nationwide Insurance until 1982.

Dave gave up his career as an insurance agent to follow his lifelong dream of owning his own bicycle shop. In 1982, he started and owned Spittler's Bicycle Shop until he retired two years ago. He lived by the motto "quality work takes time" and was know as a man who could fix anything. A conversationalist, he created many lasting friendships with people who came from near and far to visit his shop.

Along with fixing bicycles, Dave enjoyed playing guitar, being a jokester, and caring for his cats and dogs. As a child, Dave's grandfather, the late John Brommer, taught him how to blacksmith. As an adult, Dave reignited his love for blacksmithing instilled in him by his Pop Pop Brommer and began blacksmithing again.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Linda (Schneck) Spittler. Dave and Linda enjoyed everything that life had to offer, together. He is survived by two children, Natalie (Spittler) Zimmerman, wife of Tod A. Zimmerman, of Schuylkill Haven, and Adam D. Spittler of Pine Grove; three granddaughters, Lindsey M. Zimmerman, Corinne E. Zimmerman, and Kyrsten A. Spittler; a sister Elizabeth (Spittler) Krause, wife of David Krause of Pine Grove. Dave loved his family more than anything in the world, and we will miss him terribly.
