Blighted Structure in Mahanoy City Collapses

A building that has been on the blight list in Mahanoy City continued to collapse further on Thursday afternoon.

Around 4:30pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to 804 Centre Street in Mahanoy City for a structural collapse.

Mahanoy City Police were first on-scene and found the roof of the structure at 800 Centre Street had collapsed, pushing the side walls of the building out, knocking debris into the street.

According to Mahanoy City Code Enforcement officer Bill Killian, the property will more than likely scheduled for emergency demolition.

The rear portion of the structure had collapsed previously.

8th Street in Mahanoy City will be closed until further notice for safety reasons.
