Edward was born in Mahanoy City on April 29, 1939, a son of the late Anna (Magach) and Peter Conrad.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish Shenandoah.
Ed Graduated from MCHS and Stevens Trade School, Lancaster, with a major in journalism. He was an avid sports fan who began his career with the Record American. His profession led to coverage of the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers for the Sunday Bulletin and Inquire. The family relocated to Canada where he covered Canadians Hockey, Skiing, Golf and the 1976 Olympics for the Montreal Gazette and was Editor in Chief of the French-owned Sunday Express. He met many sports celebrities during his career, including Muhammad Ali, Bobby Clark, and Mike Schmidt to name a few. He published a book “Humor in Hockey” that included all the Broad Street Bullies.
After Moving Back to the Coal Regions, Ed worked for the Shenandoah Herald and Hazleton Standard Speaker where he wrote many human interest stories about the “old-timers” and extensively covered the Sheppton Mine Disaster in 1963. After retirement, he enjoyed climbing the mountains around Schuylkill County looking for fossils, spending time with his family, friends and his husky named “Blue”. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie (Jakubowska) Conrad, a son, Edward M., of Shenandoah; and two sisters, Patricia Donohoe, of Ocean City NJ; Mary Conrad, of Venice Florida. brothers, Joseph, of Brookhaven PA and Robert of Shenandoah; and by 2 Grandchildren Robert and Bonnie Conrad, and 1 Great Grandchild Haili Conrad, nieces and nephews.
Edward is preceded in death by son Barry.

Alex “Itchy” Hnatishion, 95, of Frackville, formerly of St. Clair, died Wednesday November 18, 2020, at Broad Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.
Born in St. Clair, August 1, 1925, He was a son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Wansolak) Hnatishion.
Alex Hnatishion served in the US Army during WWII, than worked as a Carpenter for Lehigh Valley Railroad.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, St. Clair, Arnots Game and Sports Association, St. Clair, West End Hose Company and the St. Clair Amvets Post 142. He loved to give Hershey’s Kisses to anyone he saw.
He was preceded in death by 5 sisters: Anna Colna, Mary Beritsky, Julia Everly, Sophie Demko, Rose Scherr; 2 brothers John and Joseph Hnatishion.
Surviving a sister Helen Corby of St. Clair; many nieces and nephews; fiancé Michelena Catizone of Girardville.
Divine Liturgy will be held at 10:15 AM Tuesday Nov. 24, 2020 from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 105 North Morris Street St. Clair. The Rev. Monsignor Myron Grabowski will be officiating. . Friends may call at the church from 9:30 -10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church memorial fund at the above address. Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
