Daniel F. Whitenight, 90, of Tamaqua, PA died on Thursday, November 26, 2020 in Coaldale, PA. He was the husband of Dolores “Dodie” (nee Pellonari) Whitenight. 

Born on December 18, 1924 in Tamaqua, Danny was a son of the late Daniel R. and Eva C. (nee Hoppes) Whitenight. A 1947 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he served in the Navy during the Korean War. Danny retired from Stanley Vidmar in Allentown, PA but worked 29 years for Bundy Tubing, Tamaqua. He was a member of the Mahanoy City Chapter of Barbershoppers for 53 years, a member of the National Rifle Association, and was a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels. Danny was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tamaqua where he had been active in the Senior Choir, the Men’s Brotherhood, the Men’s Chorus, and had served as a Councilmember. 

In addition to his wife, Dodie, he is survived by sons, Richard Whitenight of Florida and Daniel Whitenight of Tamaqua; 2 granddaughters, Vanessa Singewald of Prior Lake, MN and Stephanie Harper of Sunfish Lake, MN; and 4 great grandchildren, Jonathan Lodermeier, Jacob Lodermeier, August Singewald, and Olivia Singewald. 

Danny was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Whitenight.

Steven M. Miller, 38, of Philadelphia, and formerly Schuylkill Haven, PA, was freed from the powers of addiction on Tuesday, November 24th, 2020.

He was an amazing man who walked through life with a smile on his face and sunglasses. Steve loved all Philadelphia sports, music, sneakers, hats, but more than anything, his family and children. Taliah and Alex Miller were his pride and joy and there wasn’t a person he met that didn’t know he was a proud father. Steve knew how deeply his family loved him and never gave up hope and was by his side every step of the way. He always enjoyed a home-cooked meal when they were together.

Steve was born August 11th, 1982 in Pottsville to Mark and Cheryl Shackelton Miller. After graduating from Schuylkill Haven Area High School, class of 2000, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy.

During his years of addiction, Steve fought hard with everything he had to try and overcome the demons that go along with this disease. After 6 months of being sober, he relapsed and lost his battle.

In addition to his parents and his children, Steve is survived by sisters, Amy (Nick) Marrongelle, Orwigsburg, and Megan of Philadelphia. Grandparents, Carl and Shirley Shackelton, Cressona. Nephew and niece, Austin and Gianna Marrongelle. Many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents, Gary and Marion Miller.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven, on Monday at 2 p.m. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church.

Interment will be privately held at the family's convenience.

Craig A. Sterner
, 50, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Thursday, November 26th, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pottsville on December 15, 1969, he was a son of Robert F. & Susan M. (Bunn) Sterner, Schuylkill Haven.

Craig attended UCP/Avenues from age 2 to 6; and graduated from the Schuylkill IU 29 in 1991.

Craig was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven.

He was a Boy Scout; and rode horses for 29 years with the Schuylkill County Therapeutic Riding program.

Craig's greatest joys in life were his family, people, animals, and eating.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Russell & Gloria Bunn, paternal grandfather, Arthur D. Sterner, and aunt Lynn Sterner.

In addition to his parents, Craig is also survived by his brother, Jason Sterner, & his companion, Jenn, Schuylkill Haven, two nieces, Madalyn & Elizabeth, paternal grandmother, "Nanny" Joan Sterner, uncles & aunts: Art & Cindy, Bill & Tina, Michael "Elmo" & Debbie, cousins, and many very good friends.


A visitation will be held at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10 am. Please follow CDC guidelines, wear a mask, and social distance. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be held privately.

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

At the family's request, memorial donations in Craig's memory may be forwarded to St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, 201 Randel Street, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972 or Schuylkill County Therapeutic Riding Program. Tina Marie D'Agostino,60, of Pine Grove, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2020 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.

Born on May 1, 1960 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of Bonnie Scheibley D'Agostino of Pine Grove and the late Franklin P. D'Agostino Sr.

She was a 1978 graduate of Pine Grove High School.

Tina was a seamstress for the former Canoe, Woolwright and Pine Grove Woolen's Manufacturing and a Manager at Turkey Hill and Pilot/Subway, all in Pine Grove.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her two daughters, Tracy and husband Glenn Meek of Bellefonte, Jaime and husband Eric Reinhart of Pottstown; five grandchildren, Landon and Hailey Sweitzer, Eva Meek, Tyler and Sophia Reinhart; a brother, Franklin Jr. and wife Lisa D'Agostino; three sisters, Lori and husband Paul Wiscount, JoAnne and husband Craig Hasenauer, Karen and husband Dave Soper, all of Pine Grove; nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services and interment will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2020 at 11:30 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove with Reverend Shannon D'Agostino officiating.

Walter E. Schoffstall, Jr., 71, of Morgan Lane, Pine Grove, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020 in St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem.

Born on December 22, 1948 in Williamstown, he was a son of the late Walter E. Sr. and Betty Deitrich Schoffstall.

He was a 1966 graduate of Williams Valley High School and Williamson Trade School.

He was a member of the Pine Grove Wesleyan Church.

Walter was an Engineer for Dayton Superior, Tremont.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 50 years, Beverly A. Deiter Schoffstall on Feb. 24, 2020.

Surviving are a son, Michael Schoffstall of Hummelstown; a daughter, Michelle and husband Lynn Brown of Pine Grove; 8 grandchildren, Shelby, Michael, Shyla, Seth, Kael, Shaylynn, Kellan and Skylee; a sister Judy Hoffman of Williamstown; two brothers, Robert Schoffstall of Tremont and Darrell Schoffstall of Conneaut Lakes, PA.

There will be a viewing on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 from Noon to 1:30 P.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove. Graveside Services and interment will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in Hetzel's Cemetery, Hetzel's Church Rd., Pine Grove with Pastor Jonathan Pickett officiating.

Jeanette E. Ward, 85, of St. Clair, died Wednesday November 25, 2020, at Providence Place, Pottsville.

Born in Schuylkill Haven, February 8, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Austin and Mary (Chermansky) Kraft.

She was a 1953 graduate from St. Clair High School and worked as a Bookkeeper for the Holden Insurance Agency before retiring.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, St. Clair.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband Frank Ward in 2013.

Surviving are son William P. Ward and his wife Wendy of Hegins; daughter Kathleen Faust and her companion Stephen Yulick of Friedensburg; sister Gladys Sanderson and her husband Richard of NH; brother Austin Kraft and his wife Roberta of Palmyra; 3 grandsons Christopher Ward, Matthew Ward and William Ward, one granddaughter Courtney Schock and her husband Aaron, 2 great grandchildren Cassandra Ward and Murphy Schock , nieces and nephews.

Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday Dec. 1, 2020 in St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery, St. Clair. The Rev. Tim Hojniki will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Rev. Susan L. Koury- Kennedy, 73, of Mahanoy City, died Wednesday November 25, 2020, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, Allentown PA

Born in Pottsville, July 18, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Bernadette (Elhajj) Koury – Barket.

She graduated from Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, VA with a BA Degree in Fine Arts, did Graduate work in glassblowing at Penland School of Crafts, Penland, NC; and trained at New Life for Girls from 1976-1979. Sue became a licensed Minister in 1979 by the Independence Assembly of God and was ordained in 1983 at Faith Tabernacle in Chicago, IL. She co-directed North Central New Life for Girls in Chicago an outreach ministry that took in crisis teens. She co-pastored fellowship of Christian Assembly in Monee, IL. Her and her husband founded & co-directed Resurrection Life Ministries in Aurora, IL a home for unwed pregnant women in crisis as an alternative for abortion where they shelters hundreds of women and saved hundreds of babies. She was an art teacher at Covenant Christian School in Aurora, IL for 8 years. She had an art store The Glory Shoppe & taught art at Trinity school in St Augustine, FL. She was the Assistant Pastor at the Community Mission in Minersville, PA & continued to counsel all over Schuylkill county.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Stephen R. Kennedy in 2014 and a brother George Barkett.

Surviving are 2 daughters Angel Ramey, her husband Ryan of West Deptford, NJ; Laurie Karpathakis, her husband Anthony of Hicksville, NY; grandson Mitchell Ramey, granddaughter Penelope Karpathakis; brother Anthony Koury of Simpsonville, SC; 2 sisters, Antoinette Koury- Hughes of Pottsville, PA; Bernadette Koury- Dutton of Annapolis, MD; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday Nov. 30, 2020 from Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 North Second Street, St. Clair, PA 17970. The Rev. Robert Alonge will be officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM Monday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.

Raymond D. Cleveland, 89, of Deer Lake, passed away Wednesday, November 25th, at his residence. Raymond was born in Richland, MO on August 25, 1931, a son of the late Hazel (Forner) and Raymond Cleveland. He was the widower of Loretta M. (Durkin) Cleveland. She passed away in 2008. Raymond served in the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War. He retired after 25 years of service. He worked as a Staff Representative for AFSCME. Raymond is survived by his daughter, Linda, wife of Peter Mazurak, of Pottsville and son, Michael Cleveland, husband of Karen, of Shoemakersville. Raymond is also survived by his Granddaughter Shelly Reeve, wife of Stuart; grandson Bradley Moyer, husband of Kali. Raymond’s Great Grandchildren are Emily & Tyler Reeve. Raymond is also survived by his feline companions Rupert & Jenny. He was predeceased by his sisters Louise Rathnow and Mary Alice Cleveland. Services are private, at the convenience of family, and entrusted to the Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Orwigsburg.

Louise A. Chicora, 77, of Branchdale, Reilly Township, passed away on Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown.

Born on September 24, 1943 in Lebanon, she was a daughter of the late James and Catherine Eisenhour Lengle. She attended Lebanon Catholic High School and was a 1979 graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College where she earned her Nursing degree. She enjoyed a long career as a registered nurse at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, where she mentored numerous staff members and encouraged their career advancement. She also received the Florence Nightingale Award for excellence in Nursing. Recently, she worked as a staff nurse in the clinic at Penn National Race Course, Grantville.

She was a member of Jonestown Bible Church, Jonestown, where she was active with the Joy Fellowship. She was a longtime poll worker for the Reilly Township precinct and was a member of the Branchdale Ladies’ Booster Club. She was also a volunteer with RSVP, Pottsville, and belonged to the Alumni Association of Harrisburg Area Community College.

Preceding her in death were three siblings, Robert Lengle, James Lengle and Sister Catherine Lengle, SSJ.

Louise is survived by her husband of 30 years, William Chicora; four children, Susan Hemperly (spouse, Gary), Lebanon; Joseph Marko (spouse, Sue), New Hampshire; David Chicora, Minersville, and Annette Brilla, Forestville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Allen Lengle (spouse, Pam), Lebanon and Philip Lengle (spouse, Nancy), Lebanon; her sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Lengle, Wilmington, Delaware; nieces and nephews.

The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville, on Saturday, December 5, from 8:30 A.M. with local services at 9:30 A.M. Further services will be at Jonestown Bible Church at 11:30 A.M. The family prefers donations to American Cancer Society.

Gary A. Nye, 66, of Tower City, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at his home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with Leukemia.

Born in Lykens, May 7, 1954, a son of the late Bruce and Shirley Miller Nye. Gary was a 1972 graduate of Upper Dauphin High School. He was retired from TE Connectivity, Lickdale.

Gary was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tower City. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and most recently deer shed hunting. Gary took great pride in the appearance of his home. His family was the center of his world, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their sporting events.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Bruce Jr. and Timmy Nye.

Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Jane Kemble Nye; his two sons he was extremely proud of, Brian Nye and his wife Kori, Hegins and Jason Nye and his wife Julia, Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren, Aidan, Greyson, Stella, Gavin and Ace Nye; three brothers, Jerry Nye and his wife Agata, Carsonville; Kirk Nye and his wife Julia, Arizona and Greg Nye and his wife Melissa, Hegins. Nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Maureen Duffy-Guy officiating. Elizabeth B. (Hillis) Miller, 90, of Elverson, PA., formerly of New Ringgold, PA., passed away peacefully in her home on November 26, 2020. She was the loving wife of Peter Miller, with whom she celebrated 70 years of marriage in June 2020. Elizabeth was born in Clydebank, Scotland. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Green) Hillis. Elizabeth’s greatest joy in life was taking care of her family. She took great pride in raising her twelve children. In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Karen Stobough, Robert D. Miller, Janet Trevino, Stephen Miller, Paul Miller, Jennifer Charles, Ruth Nice, David Miller, Sam Miller, Bianca Miller, Deana Gower, and Robert J. Miller; twenty two grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters, Lavina Skoglund and Margaret Conlon. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family on Jacob’s Union Cemetery, New Tripoli, PA. Pastor James Stobaugh will officiate.
