Arlene G Kimmel
, age 93, of Hegins, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at the home of her daughter in Chula Vista, CA.

She was born on Thursday, July 21, 1927, in Hegins, a daughter of the late Charles Miller and the late Mamie (Hepler) Miller.

She was a 1945 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School.

Arlene was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Pottsville.

Her husband, Wallace L Kimmel, passed away in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents; by two daughters, Linda G Donohue, and Ginger L Kimmel; and by ten siblings.

She is survived by two sons, Lamar B Kimmel and his wife Wendy of Hegins, and Leon I Kimmel and his wife Theresa of Coal Township; two daughters, Jane E Herb of Bradenton, FL, and Holly M Kimmel of Chula Vista, CA; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be made in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins.

Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

Darrell Claude Koch
, 47, of Orwigsburg, passed away Wednesday, December 2nd, at St. Luke's Medical Center, Allentown.

Born in Pottsville, on April 5, 1973, a son of the late Eugene Koch and Beverly (Strouse) Koch Zacek, Orwigsburg.

He was the husband of Jennifer M. Koch.

He was a graduate of Blue Mountain High School, class of 1991. He then went to the training center for Sheet Metal Local Union #19. He was employed by Warko Group through the sheet metal union. Also, the current owner and operator of Muddy Hollow Farms. He was a member of the West Brunswick and Deer Lake Fire Companies.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Dillon and Brady Koch; siblings Doreen Koch Engle (Randy), Molino and Dana Koch, New Ringgold; nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father; father in law Edward Reifsnyder; maternal grandparents Claude and Pearl Strouse; paternal grandparents Floyd and Annabelle Koch.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 12th at Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Schuylkill Haven, PA with Pastor Ted Rathman officiating.

A viewing will be held prior from 9-11 at the Church.

At the family's request, memorial donations may be forwarded to Deer Lake Fire Co. 1 Ash Road, Orwigsburg PA 17961.

Peter Femyak, 91 years of age. formerly of South Tamaqua passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Maple Shade Meadows Senior Living in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania.

Born Friday, March 22, 1929 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania. the son of the late Paul, and Cecelia (Sawka) Femyak. He was also predeceased by his wife Bernice C. (Fritz) Femyak; sister, Mary Malik; step siblings; John Matrician, Anna Holovack, Katherine Perbetsky.

Nieces, and nephews survive Peter.

Peter retired from Stroh's Brewing Company of Fogelsville in 1991, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church of Lansford. Peter served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Peter was also a member of the Coaldale V.F.W..

Joanne Frances Berresford
, 84, of Weston Place passed Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Schuylkill East Norwegian Street, Pottsville. Daughter of the late Herbert Stevens Knox and Frances Lynch nee Cummings, Joanne was born in Easton, Maryland on June 16, 1936.

She met her husband, Korean War Veteran Bob Berresford, while he was travelling the minor league baseball circuit through the south. Their strong bond brought her to the coal regions for a wedding on November 8, 1952, in William Penn United Methodist Church.

The couple lived in Lost Creek Number 2 and raised three girls, eventually moving to Weston Place in the later 1960’s.

Joanne thoroughly enjoyed reading, trips to the local grocery stores and The Dollar Tree, going to the casino, and playing bingo. Nothing brought her greater joy than being with family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchild.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Berresford on October 22, 2012.

She is survived by three daughters, Debra, wife of Andrew Ulicny of Shenandoah Heights, Lisa, wife of Joe Betkavsky of Little Meadows and Nancy, wife of Joe Costa of Frackville; grandchildren, Nicole Ulicny and partner Jerry Ray of Norristown, Dr. Justin Siebert and his wife Dr. Amber Eade of Butler, Kayley Morgan and partner Justin Maciak with Jaycob and Joslyn Maciak of Nicholls, NY, Anne Betkavsky of Little Meadows, Rebecca and husband Louis Bracey of Frackville and Joseph R. Costa of Frackville; and one great grandchild, Nico Mark Bracey.

Services will be private at the family’s convenience. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Linda L. (Straub) Shomoskie
, 68 of Brownsville, Shenandoah passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at her residence.

Born in Shenandoah on March 28, 1952 she was a daughter of the late Alfred N. and Marcille M. (McAndrew) Straub.

Linda was a 1969 graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed for thirty years in the dietary department and kitchen at Broad Mountain Health & Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah and the former Saint George’s Church and was also a member of the Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens.

Linda was a kind, considerate and gentle person. She was always willing to help anyone. She loved and was truly loved by her family, friends and neighbors.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was her husband, Joseph A. Shomoskie on March 5, 2011.

Surviving are two brothers, Glenn A. Straub of Shenandoah and his fiancé Donna Kumernitsky and Bruce Straub and his wife Judy of Shenandoah; one sister, Grace Straub of Dorrance; nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, many friends and her loyal companion, her German Shepherd, “Dale”.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family with interment in Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Velma Louise (Urban) Sippie of Frackville, died Thursday December 3, 2020 at Golden Living Center York Terrace, Pottsville.

Born April 18, 1938 in Higginsville, Lafayette County, MO, She was a daughter of the late Edwin H. and Bernita A. (Pryor) Urban.

She attended Chihuahua School, RR1 near Higginsville, before moving to Warrensburg, MO to attend College High School on the campus of Central Missoui State University, now known as the University of Central Missouri, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Central Missouri before completing her degree work in Library Science through the State Library in Pennsylvania in 1973. She worked as the Assistant Librarian in the Frackville Free Public Library from 1968-1973 before being promoted to Library Director, serving from 1973 until her retirement in 2001. Following the death of her husband, she also worked as a medical librarian at the former Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center from 1990 to her full retirement in 2003.

She and her husband met while he was stationed at the Whiteman Air Force Base near Warrensburg, MO. They were Married June 1, 1956 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Warrensburg. To this union, five children were born who survive her, Son David Sippie and his wife Rhonda of Overland, MO; daughter Teri Krolick of Gordon; daughter Angela Jordan and her husband Rob of Gordon; Son Steve Sippie and his fiancé Brenda of Frackville and Jason Sippie of Frackville. Six grandchildren and 1 Great grandchild who she was very proud of, Jonathan Krolick and his fiancé, Amanda Morgan of Ashland; Andrew Sippie of Overland; Joshua Sippie and his wife Miranda of NY; Justin Jordan and his wife Brit of Mountaintop; Darrell Sippie of Mahanoy City; Dylan Sippie of Frackville; Great Grandchild Joy Isabel Jordan.

One of the proudest accomplishments of her life was raising her children to value the important things in life and to maintain the closeness of the entire family; sharing vacation adventures together with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 Wednesday December 9, 2020 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church (formerly St. Ann), 49 N. Line St. Frackville, PA 17931. The Rev. Brian Miller will be officiating. Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Joseph the Worker Memorial fund, 7 S. Broad Mountain Ave. Frackville, PA 17931. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Frackville.

Georgene Jones, 74, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday December 3, 2020, at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, February 26, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Veronica (Hughes) Miller.

Georgene was a 1964 Graduate of Nativity BVM High School, a member of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, St. Clair. She retired as a Clerk at Miller Distributing, St. Clair.

She was preceded in death by her son Christopher Jones in April of 2015, brother John Miller; 2 sisters Maryann Post and Clare Gatdly.

Surviving are a daughter Michele Lutsky and her husband Jason of Palo Alto; 3 sons Adrian Miller and his wife Cathy of Pottsville; Kevin Jones and his wife Angela of Pottsville; Paul Jones of St. Clair; 3 brothers Fred Miller of Mechanicville; Hugh Miller of Lower Mill Creek; Patrick Miller of TX; 3 sisters Elieen Minehane of TX; Josephine “JC” Cuddy of Harrisburg; Kathleen Siar of Boyertown; 7 Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday December 11, 2020 from St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 250 E. Hancock St. St. Clair. The Rev. Msgr. William F. Glosser will be officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM Friday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Clare of Assisi Memorial Fund. Burial will be in Queen of the Universe Cemetery, Pottsville.
