Mahanoy Area Plane Fire Ruled Accidental; Family of Three Displaced

A fire late Thursday/early Friday in Mahanoy Plane has been ruled accidental.

Around 11:45pm, Thursday, emergency personnel responded to 124 Island Road in Mahanoy Plane.  Responding units from Frackville, Mahanoy City, and Gilberton found a garage connected to a home on fire with the fire extending into the home.

Three people were reported to have been home at the time, were sleeping, and were awoken by a smoke alarm going off.

By 12:30am, the fire was reported to be under control but not before damaging the home and displacing the family of three.

By 2:00am, the last of the fire crews were clearing the scene.

According to Frackville Police Chief Rick Bell, an investigation of the fire led to the cause being deemed electrical in nature and has been ruled accidental.
