Schuylkill County Delegation Announces House Resolution into Possible Impeachment of Commissioner George Halcovage

On Wednesday, the Schuylkill County Representatives in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives took the first step into possible impeach of County Commissioner George Halcovage.

Reps. Jerry Knowles (R-Schuylkill/Berks/Carbon), Joe Kerwin (R-Dauphin/Schuylkill) and Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) have introduced a House resolution to call upon the House Judiciary Committee to begin an investigation of Schuylkill County Commissioner George F. Halcovage Jr. and whether an impeachment or removal from office is required due to alleged misbehavior in office and violation of public trust.

“This is very rare for Legislators to ask for the investigation of a public official,” said the delegation. “Unfortunately, under the circumstances, we believe it to be necessary. Today, we start the process of impeachment. As Schuylkill County representatives we have an obligation to our constituents to determine the facts in this case and proceed accordingly.”

The House Resolution empowers the House Judiciary Committee and the Subcommittee on Courts to conduct an investigation of Schuylkill County Commissioner George F. Halcovage Jr., to subpoena witnesses and other materials, and take testimony.

The announcement came on the same day that a Judge granted PFA's against Halcovage, which prohibits him from having contact with two of his accusers.
