Margaret S. “Ruby” (Ryan) Hood
, 83, of Pottsville, passed away on the morning of June 30th at Pottsville Rehab & Nursing Center.

Born on April 30, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Henry J. and Dorothy M. (Davenport) Ryan.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pottsville and West End Hose Company #7 Ladies Auxiliary.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar R. Hood, who passed away on July 24, 1993; a son, John R. Hood; siblings John, Henry, Francis, Theresa, Dorothy, and Jane.

Surviving are two loving sons, Dr. Thomas Hood and his wife, Michelle, Ashland; Michael A. and his wife, Francine, Pottsville; grandchildren Nicole and Brandon Hood, Ashland; a sister-in-law Pat Ryan, Orwigsburg; niece Jane Barret, Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.

John A. Koch
, 75, of St. Clair, passed away Wednesday June 30, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Health Network – Schuylkill-East, Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, October 23, 1945, He was a son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Mohl) Koch, Cressona.

After Graduating from Blue Mountain Class of ‘65 John honorably served in the Vietnam War with the US Army 86th Engineering Bn.

John retired after 33 years as a Baker from Plain and Fancy Donuts, Schuylkill Haven.

John served for 10 years as the Commander of Post 29 of the Veterans Of The Vietnam War of Port Carbon during which the organization constructed the Schuylkill County Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Penn State Schuylkill Haven.

In 1992 he was awarded the Pottsville Joint Veterans Council – Veteran of the Year Award as well as numerous other recognitions for his community service.

He was a life member of the Deer Lake Fire Company, and a member of the American Legion Post 38 of Schuylkill Haven.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Robert and George Koch, sister Betty Kolb and step daughter Jennifer Cicero.

Surviving are his wife Charlene (Altemos) Koch, son Robert Koch and his wife Kristy of Reinholds, grandchildren Kaitlyn and Thomas Cicero of St. Clair, and Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday July 7, 2021 from the Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 North Second Street St. Clair. Pastor Amy Kirkpatrick will be officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Tuesday and from 9:30AM – 10:30 AM Wednesday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Joseph’s Center for Special Learning, 2075 W Norwegian St, Pottsville, PA 17901. Burial with military honors will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

Barbara P. Russo, 83, Frackville, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, June 30th at Broad Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.

Born in Beverly, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Palmer and Charlotee Chaiken Cramer. She worked as a check processor for PNC Bank for over 35 years until her retirement.

Barbara is survived by her five children: Deborah Kizer, John Kizer, Barbara Mason, Carol Kizer Logue and Robert Kizer; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Services are private at the convenience of the family.

John H. Polon, IV, age 47, of Pottsville passed away Saturday, June 26th, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pottsville. 

Born in Pottsville, PA on June 11, 1974, he was the son of the late John and Rose (Kodak) Polon III. 

John is survived by his fiance' Korin Collins; two sisters: Denise Barnes and her husband Earl and Kimberly Kauffman; nephew Joseph Barnes and his fiance' Ashley; and nieces and cousins.

Virginia M. Moyer, 92 years of age, of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at home

Born Wednesday, September 19, 1928 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. the daughter of the late John, and Margaret (Noll) Freeman. Virginia was also predeceased by; husband, Warren "Bud" Moyer on Sept. 13, 1990; Step daughter, Nancy Ann Salkoff who passed away on April 24, 2021; sisters, Freda Jobrey, Margaret Zelinsky; brothers, George Freeman, John Freeman, Christian Freeman.

Virginia is survived by many nieces, and nephews, and her son-in-law.

A 1946 graduate of Pottsville High School, Virginia worked for Bell Telephone for 46 years. Virginia is a member of the Tamaqua Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall.

Gary L. Miller
, 73 years of age, of Clamtown Road Tamaqua, Pennsylvania passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Salisbury Twp..

Born Monday, April 19, 1948 in Reynolds, Pennsylvania the son of the late William F., and Erma (Bensinger) Miller. Gary was also predeceased by; brothers, Daniel R. Miller, Infant brother Terry Miller; sister-in-law, Helen R. Miller.

Surviving are brothers, Bertram K. Miller and his wife Marie of Tamaqua, Paul E. Miller of Tamaqua, William F. Miller and his wife Connie of Andreas. Many nieces and nephews also survive Gary.

Gary served honorably having been awarded medals of valor in the Vietnam War. Gary was a Purple Heart recipient, for injuries sustained during combat. A lifelong truck driver, Gary belonged to the Tamaqua American Legion, and the West Penn rod & Gun Club, having served as a Past President. He enjoyed the company of his dog, and never turned down a good meal with friends, and family.

Florence P. (Gilbert) Fritz
, 100 years of age, of Andreas, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at home on June 29, 2021. She was married to the late Paul D. Fritz, who passed away in 1985.

Born in Andreas, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Charles, and Carrie (Brown) Gilbert.

Florence worked alongside her husband on the family farm where she was born, and where she entered into eternal rest.

She was the oldest living member of Ben Salem U.C.C. Church in Lehighton, Pennsylvania.

Survivors include; her son, Nevin P. Fritz, at home; two grandchildren, Donna Kemfort, and Tammy Dean; three great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter.

Florence was predeceased by; son, Carl S. Fritz; grandson, Michael C. Fritz; siblings, Millard Gilbert, Mary Daubenspeck, Verna Messershmidt, Emma Kemmerer.
