Schuylkill County School Districts Differ on Mask Mandates After Supreme Court Ruling

On Friday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled the mask mandate issued by the Department of Health illegal.  Over the weekend, Schuylkill County School Districts announced how they would be moving forward in terms of making staff an students where a masks inside district buildings.


Each of the listed announcements were recorded as of 11:00am, Monday, December 13th, 2021. The announcements are subject to change.

Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain notified parents on Saturday that it was lifting their mask mandate for staff and students and they would now be optional.

A statement from the district stated "Due to the most recent court ruling, starting today, December 11, 2021, the wearing of face masks by staff and students will be optional in our school buildings. The CDC order requiring the wearing of face masks on school buses remains in effect."

Gillingham Charter

Gillingham Charter will continue to mandate masks as per an announcement on Saturday.


Mahanoy Area

Mahanoy Area will be requiring masks as stated in an announcement on Sunday.


Minersville Area

Minersville Area will be requiring masks as stated in an announcement on Monday Morning.

North Schuylkill

North Schuylkill will be requiring masks as stated in an announcement on Sunday


Pine Grove

Pine Grove is dropping the mask mandate and they are now optional for staff and students


Pottsville

Pottsville Area will be mandating masks for the time being per school officials.

Saint Clair

Saint Clair will keep the mask mandate going forward as per an announcement Monday morning.


Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven will continue to mandate masks as per school officials.

Shenandoah Valley

Shenandoah Valley will continue to mandate masks as per school officials.

Tamaqua

Tamaqua dropped their mask mandate as of Sunday, December 12th, 2021.  Masks are now optional for staff and students.

Tri-Valley

Tri-Valley is dropping their mask mandate as of Monday, December 13th, 2021.  Masks are now optional for staff and students.

Williams Valley

Williams Valley has dropped their mask mandate as of Sunday, December 12th, 2021 as stated in an announcement from the school district.
