One of the region's most demanding foot races is set to return next Saturday as the Coal Cracker 10K gears up for another year of lung-burning hills and gritty determination.
Scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025, the race is known for being one of the most grueling 10Ks in the state. Starting in the heart of downtown Shenandoah, runners will embark on a 6.2-mile journey that winds through the hills and backroads of the Shenandoah area.
The course begins with a steady push through the streets of Shenandoah before taking runners into a series of rolling hills and narrow twists. But the real test of strength and stamina comes as athletes face the infamous St. Nick’s Breaker Hill — a hill climb that has become a defining feature of the race. Those who conquer it will find a rewarding downhill stretch leading back into town, only to be met by one last sharp incline at the finish line.
Runners and spectators can look forward to an award ceremony featuring local favorites: cold Yuengling beer and the Mrs. T's pierogies made just blocks away. The day caps off with the Coal Cracker After Party hosted by The Lyric Bar & Restaurant.
Over 50 hand-crafted awards will be given out — each one made from Schuylkill County’s coal.
In addition to the main 10K, the Coal Cracker also includes a 1.5-mile Kids’ Fun Run for children ages 12 and under, and a 1.5-mile run/walk for those looking for a lighter challenge.
The final day to register is Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
