A Schuylkill County woman was killed Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 North in Dauphin County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police in Harrisburg, the crash occurred around 2:38 p.m. on September 11, 2025, near mile marker 78.9 in East Hanover Township.
Investigators say a 2015 Mack Granite truck, driven by Carol A. Lopez, 56, of Schuylkill Haven, was traveling northbound in the left lane when the vehicle suffered a front right tire failure. The blowout caused the truck to abruptly turn right, strike and break through a guide rail, then travel up an embankment before overturning.
Lopez became entrapped in the vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts by fire crews and EMS, she was pronounced dead at the scene by South Central EMS.
The right lane of I-81 northbound was closed for several hours while emergency crews worked the scene. The roadway reopened around 6:00 p.m.
