Leffler is one of just 25 coaches statewide recognized through the PIAA/National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coach of the Year program. The honor highlights coaches who have made a significant impact on their athletic programs, achieved competitive success, and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship while advancing education-based athletics.
“Education-based athletics is a vital part of the high school experience, and it thrives because of the passion and commitment of our member school coaches,” said Dr. Robert Lombardi, PIAA Executive Director. “Their dedication leaves a lasting impact on the lives of student-athletes every day. On behalf of the PIAA Board of Directors, PIAA member schools, and all registered officials, we proudly congratulate these individuals on being named the 2024–2025 PIAA/NFHS Coaches of the Year.”
Leffler took the helm of the Pine Grove Area softball program in 2014. Since his arrival, the program has compiled a 208–62 record, yielding a winning percentage of nearly .770. His tenure has been defined by consistent success, leading the Cardinals to a PIAA State Championship last season.
Under his leadership, Pine Grove has captured four Schuylkill League titles, four District 11 championships, and two state championships.
Since 2016, more than 190 Pennsylvania coaches have been honored through the NFHS Coach of the Year program, with several advancing to regional and national recognition. Leffler’s selection places Pine Grove and Schuylkill County in the statewide spotlight, celebrating the tradition of excellence he has fostered within the community.
