Schuylkill County Resident Defrauded in $150 TikTok Puppy Scam


The Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a scam in which a Port Carbon woman was defrauded out of a gift card payment during a suspected online puppy scam.
According to police, troopers responded to a report of theft on Pine Street around 7:17 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8th. Investigators determined that the 65-year-old victim had been contacted through TikTok regarding the sale of a puppy.

The suspect allegedly requested gift cards as a down payment. The victim subsequently purchased an Amazon gift card valued at $150 and provided the card information as instructed.

Police say the transaction was later identified as fraudulent and part of a scam operation.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Troopers are reminding residents to exercise caution when making online purchases, particularly those involving requests for payment through gift cards, which are commonly used in scams.
