Gary William Marx, 38, of Port Carbon, was charged by the St. Clair Police Department with terroristic threats, two counts of simple assault, and harassment stemming from an incident reported at approximately 2:07 a.m. on January 1, 2026.
Police were dispatched to a residence on East Lawton Street after Schuylkill County Communications advised officers of a physical domestic incident in progress, noting the male involved was possibly armed and that a woman and an infant could be heard screaming. Officers arrived, surrounded the residence, and issued repeated verbal commands.
A woman and her one-year-old child exited the home and followed police instructions. After several additional commands, Marx exited the residence and was detained for officer safety.
According to the criminal complaint, officers observed injuries on the adult victim consistent with an assault, including hair pulled from her head and bruising to her back, foot, and knee. The complaint alleges the victim was forcibly pulled from a bed by her hair while holding the child and threatened with death. Police also reported observing a red scratch on the child’s cheek that the victim stated was not present prior to the incident.
Marx was advised of his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with police, according to the affidavit. He admitted to drinking and acknowledged grabbing the victim by the hair during the incident.
Based on statements, observed injuries, and alleged threats, police requested an arrest warrant for Marx on domestic violence–related charges.
Marx was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post 10 percent of the $25,000 bail set by the court. Online court information reported that Marx was released on Friday, January 2, 2026, after posting bail.
