
According to Schuylkill County Treasurer Linda Yeich, the dog warden will begin canvassing Pottsville and surrounding areas starting March 12, 2026, checking to ensure dogs are properly licensed as required under Pennsylvania law.
County officials say all dogs 2 months of age or older must have a current license. Owners of unlicensed dogs could face a fine of up to $500 plus court costs.
Dog License Fees
Annual dog licenses are available through the Schuylkill County Treasurer’s Office as well as several authorized agents located throughout the county.Current annual license fees are:
- $10.80 for male or female dogs
- $8.80 for senior citizens or disabled owners
Lifetime Dog Licenses
Lifetime licenses are also available for dogs that have been microchipped or tattooed for permanent identification. These licenses must be obtained at the Treasurer’s Office and require a permanent identification verification form signed by both the owner and a veterinarian or kennel.Lifetime license fees are:
- $52.80 for standard applicants
- $36.80 for senior or disabled owners

Fishing Licenses and Trout Season Dates
The Treasurer’s Office is also currently selling Pennsylvania fishing licenses, and printed copies of the 2026 trout stocking schedule are available.Officials also highlighted several important upcoming dates for anglers during the 2026 Pennsylvania Fish and Boat season:
- March 28, 2026 – Statewide Mentored Youth Trout Day
- April 4, 2026 – Statewide Trout Opening Day
- May 24 and July 4, 2026 – Fish-For-Free Days
