Motorists traveling throughout Schuylkill County this week should expect delays as several PennDOT maintenance projects continue or begin on Interstate 81 and Route 61.
The work includes milling and paving, drainage improvements and brush cutting, with daytime lane restrictions scheduled through the end of the week.
Interstate 81 North & South Milling and Paving
PennDOT maintenance crews will conduct milling and paving operations on Interstate 81 northbound and southbound between Exit 112 (PA 25) in Frackville Borough and Exit 119 (Highridge Park Road).
A southbound lane restriction will be in place Monday, July 27, through Wednesday, July 29, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. For Northbound, a right lane closure will remain in effect daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Thursday, July 30.
Route 61 Drainage Work
On Route 61 in Butler Township, PennDOT crews will perform drainage work between Academy Lane (by North Schuylkill) and Malones Road.
Motorists should expect lane shifts from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, July 27, through Friday, July 31.
Brush Cutting on Interstate 81 North
PennDOT will also conduct brush cutting along Interstate 81 northbound between Exit 119 (Highridge Park Road) and Exit 138 (PA 309) through West Mahanoy, Ryan and Kline Townships.
Northbound motorists should expect daytime lane restrictions from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, July 27, through Thursday, July 30.
PennDOT advises drivers to reduce speeds in work zones, remain alert for changing traffic patterns and allow extra travel time when traveling through the affected areas.
According to PennDOT, weather is not expected to delay any of the scheduled work.
