Williams Valley scored 19 unanswered points after falling behind by two touchdowns to defeat North Schuylkill 19-14 on Friday night.
North Schuylkill opened the scoring when Brock Holmes connected with Daniel Brake for an 8-yard touchdown pass. Wes Urban added the extra point to give the Spartans a 7-0 first-quarter lead.
Holmes extended the advantage in the second quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run. Urban’s second extra point put North Schuylkill ahead 14-0.
Williams Valley began its comeback before halftime. Fletcher Thompson scored on a 1-yard run, and Owen Mace converted the extra point to cut the Spartans’ lead to 14-7.
Thompson found the end zone again on another 1-yard run during the third quarter. The extra-point attempt failed, leaving North Schuylkill with a 14-13 lead entering the final quarter.
The Vikings completed the comeback in the fourth quarter when Cayden Witmer scored on a 1-yard run. The conversion attempt failed, but the touchdown gave Williams Valley its first lead of the game, 19-14.
That score held through the remainder of the contest as North Schuylkill was kept off the scoreboard throughout the second half.
Williams Valley improved to 2-1 in its first season under head coach Frank Gaffney.
North Schuylkill dropped to 0-3.
Williams Valley will travel to Nativity BVM in Week 4, while North Schuylkill will host rival Mount Carmel.
